North Africa Bardia: 1700 Hours 12/24/40

Here we go again same old stuff never changes. We got our company back from the top brass. But now they didnt get the parts or replacements shipped in before we were ordered back out into the line. Now were short of half our tanks glad I got 4 sections meduim tanks from support

We have been ordered to delay the Italians long enough for our supply lines to get up to snuff. Seems they are having a heck of a time with the German U-Boats and raiders in the Atlantic and sea. Hope they manage to get us ammo and chow down here. Dont want to eat any of those ugly camels.

Just happened to realize its Christmas eve tonight. Our group was formed over a year ago such a long time ago it seems. Doubt if there will be any Xmas dinner tonite. Wonder what the family is doing right now. Better get them off my mind before I lose sight of our mission.

We are spread out about 250 yards in front of 3 low sand hills. I have most of the tanks we have left in reserve. Three plattoons Engineers have been put out front in strategic positions. They are to lay a mine field in the hopes of slowing the enemy down some. Dont want them to come snow balling in hell up to our lines. HAHA hey get the pun about Xmas dam bloody funny if you ask me.

Visability is good near 1500 yards and clear. The support tanks I got will make the difference in this fight. I am sorry but they will be the first to feel the brunt of the attack. My men deserve a break for once.

Good on ya, mates. Send the Eye-ties packing. I'm wagering a pint on ya, so don't let us down.

Best to ya,

The Irish Guards.

Picked up the Italians advance at 1710 hours. They were right on our preplotted grids. The 8 inchers were given the order to open up on them. The very first volley knocked out 3 lorries and there troops also along with 2 tanks.

They have come with a very large tank force again. Our Bufors AA took out 2 more lorries before they even knew what hit them. I had the gunners set there range at 750 yards at first. They had so many targets to shoot at I knew the ammo was not goin to last. I have since given the order to let them close within 500 yards of our lines.

Three or four tanks have got into the mine field the Engineers laid. No hits from them as yet but a plattoon of Engineers took out 2 tanks as well. Play with the scorpians you will get stunk by the scorpians.

Not much loss of life so far a few random losses to there 81 and 75 artty. They began to lay down a bombardment at 1710 and has not let up since. I still have most of my armor under cover. Brought a plattoon of medium tanks to the crest of the hill in the south. They almost immediatly took out 3 tanks hardly stopping at all before ducking back down behind the hill.

ATR did me proud took out a tank at 200 yards side shot. Wow what a fight this has been might be able to get well after this.

Whipped them this time whipped them bad. They are running off the battle field in droves. I sent both north and south flanks on a counter attack. Also brought up my tanks from reserve. Didnt lose any AFV this time primarilly due to holding them back. By the time I brought them up there tank force was all but done. They lost 117 tanks to the superb shooting by the 2 pounders and the 6 pounder gun crews. Those gun barrels were really smokin today.

The Engineers with there mines accounted for at least a half a dozen and that was only one to the mine field. Oh well it was a good plan at the moment. Still it made them slow down and vere right into the line of fire of the 2 and 6 pounders.

The extra sections also helped in this battle. Even tho they were in harms way the whole battle not a one was lost. Guess those boys will be glad to get rid of us.

We did lose more men then I wanted too. Forty three of our friends and comrads are gone. They made the Ities pay for there lives tho 868 of them went with our brave boys, Where ever brave boys go to. God save the Queen. Long live the Empire.

We are to be sent back again to the same port we were at before. The High Command assured me our tanks will be there this time. I truly hope so, we are down to less then half our tank force. We were also told there will be a special delivery of a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings tonite. Something special for the fine job our men did today. Pip Pip Hooray!!!!!!
