I found this while browsing steelnavy.com It is the Arizona, as she appeared on December 10, 1941. The way he has done the bow is incedibly realistic. Take a look.

Arizona PH 1:350 model

I did that when I was 10 yrs old with a Revell kit I got bored with (during my pyro phase). Loaded the bow beneath the turrets with match heads and same for forward tripod, put it in the kitchen sink and lit it off. Still have some 110 pics of it somewhere. Burned pretty good, the mast sort of toppled the right way, but the oily smoke from the burning plastic, and the adhesive ash flying around, embedded into curtains and paint all over the kitchen and dining room, ruining a favourite painting of my Mom's! One of the more memorable spankings this boy received, and some of the most annoying yard chores. My Dad was in the middle of redoing the driveway and we had this huge pile of gravel in the front yard. Every weekend over the summer I had to move by shovel and wheel barrel (spelling?) this mountain first to the back and then, in response to my Dad saying "Ya know, I think we'll start in the front", back into the front yard.[:D] None of this spare the rod crap for my folks.[:D]

hehehehehehehe..... Sounds about like the reverse of what happened with me and my dad. I made a scale model of the Arizona as a kid, and being a kid it got kinda beat up. So, one day I was playing with it in a lake (amazingly, it was watertight). Well, being bored, my dad started throwing rocks at it. I thought it amusing, until he hit it square on the belt, and (in WitP fashion) it roled over and sank in about 10 seconds. I go tit back though.... I still have it. Minues supersturcture and masts though.

Huh. Interesting. Did the deck and #1 turret really just collapse into the hull like that? I kind of figured that everything above the magazines just . . . went away. Guess I'll have to go visit someday - soon.

It's an eerie place. If you can get away from the throngs of Japanese tourists and find a quiet spot, you can feel the place. Even if you didn't know what happened there, you'd sense it. I can't really explain it - you have to experience it.

Seeing the old veterans there got to me too.

I did the same thing except I used a BB gun shot from a canoe. Blasted the superstructure off before I was able to get a hit at the waterline and sink it.

Many of my model tanks fell victim to cherry bombs and M-80s.

I went there this past summer. It is a very moving experience to see it in person. What I liked was that the film you see first at the visitor's center has not been made to be politically correct. It captures the indignation felt by the american people and places the blame for the attack and the war SOLELY on the Japanese. Visiting the Might Mo right after really capped of the tour.

The only thing more moving is to see the video about Fort McHenry in Baltimore and have the Star Spangled Banner start to play as the curtains open up and you look out on the flag over the fort. Brings a tear every time.

I think it was four decks in that section callapsed on each other with the men still in there.

It is awesome to see. been there a dozen times or so. The park ranger who gave us the briefing the first time I went was one of the divers who worked on her after the attack. There is alot to be learned about WWII history that has never made it into the books.

You're right about Ft McHenry. That curtain pulling back is the best, especially if you're not expecting it. Blows me away. I love the place. I used to live on the Inner Harbor and I would run out there almost every day.

There are three different replicas of the SSB that they fly over the fort, depending on the wind state. The largest one is incredible. Nothing like looking up at a huge American flag.

I think the modeller did a very commendable job.

There is a large model of USS Arizona at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor's Center, based on a detailed mid-1980's National Park Service survey. You can read about the results here, including some fairly detailed drawings that formed the basis for the model at the Memorial.

hull blew out sideways and nos. 1 and 2 turrets dropped 30'. in 2002 i was out there and cornered Daniel Martinez, the park service historian and got the definitive answer on damage. only 2 bomb hits; one glancing off no. 3 turret and penetrating the quarterdeck and the forward hit. if i recall, they didn't know the forward turrets were still there until 1982. i am currently building a detailed 3d model of arizona and will be updating my website this week. 3d arizona model working
