A Few Thoughts and Pointers on Mega Campaign-North Africa

Colleagues in War,
Let me mention a few things about Mega Campaign North Africa now that it is arriving at your homes. It will make more sense now.
The Mega Campaign is based on a group of troops (a kampfgruppe) under Colonel Hans Dietsl (that is you!).
You will follow a desert odyssey of nearly one year, being led by the infamous Desert Fox.
Each new battle is called a "node."
Each node may have 0-4 options.
Each option is either a variation of the original battle or a new battle entirely.
You may think from the first three battles that it is only attack-defend.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
What kind of battles will you find. Well, there are the usual attack-defend but more, much more.
You have raids on supplies, attacks from the LRDG, attacks searching for the LRDG (British commandos), attacks to free prisoners, searches for water, rescue missions, attacks on POW camps, trains, and a ton of other very different scenarios.
When you start a new battle, read carefully each option. See how it describes the variation or new battle.
If you don't play it this time, you can play it the next time you go through MCNA.
It can be replayed over and over, with variation each time.
The more battles you win, the more battles you fight. The more battles you fight, the more points you earn.
Lose a battle and you may miss a couple more. This lowers your chances for points toward a decisive victory.
Finally, there are dozens and dozens of pictures and articles on the desert. You'll be a real Shiek of the desert when you are done here, and perhaps a hero of the Fatherland! Rommel is counting on you!

I am quite happy with the mega campaign.
I'm finding those Britisher's to be formadable opponents.
I'm still slowly advancing in the Brandenburger scenerio.
When do the burgers arrive Wild Bill?
For some reason now these mega campaign battles have a sense of urgancy about them.

I agree with WB , the mc offers huge amounts of replay value , I'm currently on the fourth 'MISSION' and I find it very interesting and satisfying to be able to pick your field of battle rather than the standard attack/defend tradeoffs.Hats off to matrix and megacamp.Am also playing with version 5.3 and noticed it is harder but not impossible if you dont try to take out each soldier , suppress like hell and move on.

Thanks Wild Bill... I really appreciate all you and the staff have done with the mega campaign! I just got mine two days ago and it is wonderful. Keep up the great work and thanks for the tips. It was well worth the wait.

This is most encouraging, guys. And the deeper you get into the Mega Campaign, the more fun I think you will find it to be.
Take care of Oberst Dietsl. He is one of Rommel's favorites!

Hi Wild Bill,
Im currently playing the Brandonbergers
scenerio in node 2 and I noticed something funky.
I have two Sdkfz-7 Prime Movers.
One has the Afrika Corps Headquarters,
and the other has a German Rifle Squad.
I can't unload them from the Sdkfz-7's.
Is it supposed to be like that?
I would have used that rifle squad on the front lines if I could have.

I had that same problem in the second battle which was the attack on Mersa El Braga,I think. Two of my truck s would not unload their troops, and the headquarters loaded once and then would no longer load. The info box at the bottom kept saying they were already loaded.About sixteen turns into the battle the computer froze up and I lost the whole battle trying to recover it.It would appear that the file was corrupted. Being able to save once in a while would be a nice feature as this would really make you mad if you were swvwral battles into the campaign and got a bad file.Could be a long time to get back to where you were.

Bill,
Thanks for the info - It's great - lots of options, great maps, so far very interesting battles - I'm only into my second one but in each battle you have so many options to choose from.
It also has awards for victory, battlefield honors, campaign and strategic maps! We'll see if I can get the "Knight's Cross with Swords" - I think it's better than the "Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves" - those are looming there like carrots in front of me.
So far with one decisive victory I've gotten the "Wound Badge" (lost some men), "Infantry Assault Badge", and the "Africa Corps Title Cuff". Has anybody receive any other awards?

Im about 14 turns into the 2nd node and both my force and the british have lost thier morale, yet we fight on.
I fortunatly,control all victory hexes and I
have 3 tanks left to the single vickers mk 2
the british have.
I don't know if I'll make the Rommel Dean's list this time...

I noticed this also, but I'm in the third node using the R-Boats (which have been sunk, by the way.)
I'm really enjoying the Mega Campagin. Thanks to all for their efforts.

The Mega Campaign definitely adds tremendous replay ability to the game. My only concern, though, is what will happen to my Hans Dietsl if he performs poorly? He won’t get many points and will fight fewer (North Africa) battles, but will he be injected into the fray when I get the next Mega Campaign? Will my Hans be dropped into the horrendous cauldron in the East?

I had the same problem in the second node not being able to unload the two units. I probably could have used them. What happened to me in the second node was a little strange - I was in the middle of my turn when I clicked on the autosave button, and it brought me out of the scenario and tallied the score! I was planning on taking several unoccupied VH in the next turn, but never got the chance.
If the opposing force has its morale broken, would an autosave end the game? (I'm not sure this was the case, but it's possible - I had the Brit Command tank I think it was a MKIII, surrounded by SIX PZIIIE's and they must have put 50 rounds at 1 hex range into every side of that bleeping tank, without a KO! Lots of ricochets!) But my point was, should I have waited until the end of my turn before autosaving, or what? I only got a draw, and I could have gotten at least a partial victory, because the Brits were wiped out to a man, with the exception of the aforementioned tank. I had slightly more than half the VH's.

This anomaly found in the first two scenarios is very strange. I have seen it too and have not as yet been able to figure out just why it is that way.
You see it in no other Nodes (battles) of the game, just Nodes 1-3.
I am checking into it. I have a suspicion of what may be the problem. I'll let you guys know soon as I figure it out.
Sorry CoachAce, Dietsl will not proceed to the EF MC. That one begins June 22, 1941 and the good Oberst is still trying to follow the orders of the Desert Fox.
Figmo, you've done well. The amount of medals you win depend upon how many decisive victories you secure in succession. I probably should not tell you that except it gives you something to aim for.
Mac, the main thing is to stay alive. You'll have some better times ahead.
Blue Duck, the save routine was something Michael Wood definitely wanted included. I understand his reasoning but as poorly as I play, such a system as you suggest would be nice
Good to see you got those R-Boots, Max. You'll find even more interesting battles down the line. It is air-sea-land even in NA.
Boz, I tried repeating your situation but could not.
Did this take place when you loaded the save, or did it happen when you hit autosave?
It could be that it would have ended anyway but I don't think so.
In such a case I suppose you might try to wait till the end of the battle, but that might not always be convenient.
And I am glad you are enjoying the Campaign, guys. Thanks for your comments and questions.

This happened when I hit autosave. I was immediately dumped out of the scenario, and given my score.
