Another to buy question

Just wanted to say there is a killer community here! I am impressed> which brings me to my question. Like many, I have struggled with the "to buy, not to buy" question. I don't have a problem with detailed games (like HOI) but am concerned that WitP is sounding overly complicated. Does the game lose itself in minutia or does it remain playable? Prior posts had mentioned waiting for patches, has that time arrived? I didn't see anything about tutorials, is one included? Part of me says just shut up and buy it, if for nothing less then to support the genre. I would love to hear your thoughts! And thanks.

To answer your question.. buy! [:D]
The learning curve can be daunting at first, but the game is actually quite learnable. The tutorial is excellent, and the manual covers the basics fairly well - the difficult bits can be found here in the War Room and on Spooky's site..
The game has been patches several times - you'll need to download the 1.30 comprehensive patch, and the 1.40 patch - both are in the downloads section of the Matrix site.
So buy it! [;)]

I've played HOI. HOI is not a detailed game. HOI is the 1040EZ form. WiTP is the full 1040 form with all the supplements. My taxes, which involve trusts, income from multiple states and farm expense forms, are easier than some parts of WiTP.
Of course you should buy it! [:D]

HOI cannot adequately be compared, it's like comparing "Risk" with "Squad Leader." It is the most intense war game I've played and incredibly detailed.
I tend to agree with your concerns, I had them when I bought the game. A war game that records every tank, every pilot, rounds of ammunition on all your ships, how could you keep up? Yet, I found the interface easy to use and it helped me get into the game, now I think nothing of juggling all of these things. There are features to help. You can set some things on automatic, including whole theaters. The computer won't manage as well as you but at least it can share the load until you're up to speed.
Still, this is money well spent!

Read the nanaual and then do the tutorial and then ask questions here. You will find that no matter how good the developers intentions not every thing you need to know is in the manuall and/or the tutorial[8D]

Read the AAR threads as well, they're a font of useful experiences! And don't be afraid to enter into a PBEM:

Adobe says 220, but I never print, just read online. You can also keep a copy running in background as you play and alt-tab back and forth as needed [;)]

Definitely buy this game. There's nothing in comparison to it, and there probably won't be for a very long time![8D]

Thanks, now get back to your coffee and game.
In the wee hours of the morning, as I'm working out the minutia essential to world domination, I wish I did drink coffee....

I have actually printed out several SPWAW manuals at work in the past early in the morning. My weak spot when war gaming is too much Pepsi/Coke!

Is it time to start another "Joys of Jolt Cola" discussion?
