Careful! We don't want to start the Paradox Wars going again... [;)]
Though this does seem to contradict the negative views expressed in that (now locked) thread.
Let's wait for the game and give a try... sounds very promising though!

Why will I be dissapointed if the game gets favorable reviews?....the fact that I do not like the game is strictly a matter of personal choice...for those who do enjoy HOI and the upcoming HOI2, all I can say is that I hope you have a great time playing it......

Alright, I played the demo....three times. First time, never having played HoI, I was pretty much just flaying aroung trying to understand the mechanics and the interface, read all the tool tips. Now the second time I had a much easier time of it, although I wasn't particularly impressed with the "flow" of the game features, still not real familiar yet and the Allies got the marginal victory....I was playing the Germans. Finally on the third time through I was feeling like I can play this game competently, but for some reason it just didn't give me the feeling of accomplishment after getting a decisive victory. A lot of pausing and reorganizing my forces and clicking off pop ups and in the end I erased it from hard drive, not really sure why I'm not interested. I guess maybe it just didn't feel like the wargames I'm familiar with...my two favorites SC and HttR.

Fair enough...
Pop-ups flow can be easily customized, just right-click the one that you find non-critical, then choose appropriate option (show in log/don't show at all). As for pause/speed of the game, my standard system is the highest speed in 1936-1939 period (peace), slow when there is a lot of action (like Fall Weiss/Fall Gelb/Barbarossa type of operation), then normal during the less action-packed times (Sitzkrieg, preparations for the next blitz...). Pause is here to use it - think of about it as like about turn in normal wargame. [:)]
But of course, everything is a matter of taste - if whole desing doesn't suit you, no problem. Some people prefer blondes, some - brunettes. [:D]
PS. And battle scenarios are just an add-on to the full campaigns, designed for fast MP action. I guess it would be better if demo was based on tutorial, instead of one of those...

It's nice to see a muture point/counterpoint view of HOI without it becoming a personal bashfest as too often occurs...

I agree. How har can it be to be polite?
As for HoI, you need to take your time to understand and appreciate the game. The battlescenario is not a good demo. It does not show the game realy, just combat mechanics. Once you understand all aspect of HoI the game becomes much less confusing and it is realy good actually. It took me a while but now I love the game.
But for those that require turn-based games the game won't be very much fun. I have friends that is the opposite, turnbased is not good they say. Myself I don't care what type of game there is. I decided after I have learned the game fully.
Try it out, like it or not. There is always more games out there for other tastes.

Well you never can tell, I just might purchase the gold version, there were things I've been thinking about. Not being able to appreciate the intracacies of the combat formulas and the use, or nonuse of the the HQs below Fieldmarshall rank may have been what set me "off". I liked the brigade attachments and the air features were easy to get the hang of, but I sure would like to see some feedback as far as combat attrition on my TO&Es, strength assessments or something to let me know how my combat tactics are doing. The real biggie here is no PBEM feature, which also was a big drawback to my continuing play of HttR. Still love the game....but its to easy to win now even with low supplies and enhanced reinforcements for the other side. My schedule is not conducive for TCP play....damn that SC...it has spoiled me for PBEM.

Do you not know that the wargamer has an entire mini-site dedicated to the game paid for by the makers of the game?
http://hearts-of-iron.wargamer.com/
They are hardly the best source for an unbiased opinion on the game.
And then you have to consider Wargamer's review of the original Hearts of Iron.
Just download the demo and form your own opinions.

Sure thing, but notice that reviewer actually only stated that game is detailed (nothing new, HoI1 was detailed as well), got better interface (it was mentioned X times before) and that game is stable (which actually is kind of new, early versions of HoI1 suffered from stability problems greatly).
Nothing about the game balance.
Nothing about the difficulty/AI.
Nothing about the realism (detail does not always equals realism [:)]).
Conclusion - wait for full review, possibly check some other sites as well. This review is just excited typing of the guy who recieved new toy, serious writing will come later.
PS. I find this review interesting for totally different thing - info about the new 3D engine for new game (Squad Leader OR Diplomacy).

As for HoI, you need to take your time to understand and appreciate the game.
Why?? Two YEARS and seven patches obviously wasn't enough to help me "understand" and "appreciate" HOI the first time around. [:(]
