When I create an ASW TF the rulebook says I can set Patrol/Do not retire and have the force react to enemy subs if I set Max React greater than 0. My choice is greyed out, fixed at 0.[&:]

Got me on that one. I have never seen a ASW TF react to a sub.

But I never read the manual either.

I have never seen an ASW TF react. Wouldn't be realistic if it did. Offensive ASW is a very deliberate and slow-moving operation. You have to find the subs with ASW a/c and hunt them down hex by hex with ASW TF.

After all, it is a 60 mile hex.....[:'(]

Defensive ASW is far simpler, just have ASW TFs follow your convoys and combat TFs. They will take the submarine heat instead of the high value units; this is a fight that has better odds for the surface navy.

I only allow ASW TFs to move at "cruising speed". I know, I'm weird but Ithinklike you on this.

I believe the rule book says it will React to a Friendly Base if set on Patrol/Do Not Retire. It will not react to an enemy sub. (Pg. 80)
