Just got 1.41 to test

I just got 1.41 from Mike he has been hard at work over Christmas. He made several changes to try and fix the leader bug. Time will tell. He fixed the subs so they will return to port when out of ammo or fuel. He also made several improvements that should make some of you very happy.
Please try and get a save of the disappearing units to one of us.
Happy New Year!

Mike did a great job on the leader thing in 1.40, and his work on the new patch will, I am sure, be just as good. I hope that he feels appreciated, because he is.
You too, Kid...
I'm just a WO 0/0, myself ... very cautious and not destined to amount to much.

Even if you can't come up with a save, explaining exactly what you do might be equally helpful in this case.

First off, the changes made so far have cut down on the leader losses. So thanks for that.
As for the remaining ones, when I've been noticing it, it has nothing to do with what the player does AFAICT. This isn't a rant or complaint about debugging methods. I've never used auto selection of leaders, I have nothing at all under computer control, I don't auto disband TFs. Most of my TFs are commanded by the senior ship captain. I usually notice this bug hitting when I form a new TF and see that the senior ship captain is a Japanese officer (playing as the Allies) or a Major or something like that. So whatever the remaining problem(s) is (are), at least one of them is tied in to the individual ship leaders. I can't even tell you when it is happening because I don't check the CO of every single ship every single turn. To do that requires knowledge of the save game file layout so that a utility can be written to, at a minimum, list all ship COs for a human to skim thru.
Again, not ranting or screaming here. I know how frustrating it can be tracking down some bugs. But there really are times when all the users can do is tell you "Its broken, here, somehow." Sorry, guys. [:(]

Does it happen *when* you create the TF or when the turn is run?
Are there other ships in the area at the time? Other TF's?

Yes and Yes but there is a draw back that may occour. Apparently if you change the upgrade path of a SQ that was set by the scenario to upgrade outside the normal path, you can not get that unique upgrade path back. Still looking into this.

It depends on how you look at it whether it is a bug or not.
If the player decides to change the initial upgrade path of a SQ, why should it then follow the unique SQ path afterwards? The player has decided to go outside the path laid out for the SQ. The next upgrade should be the standard default one. If the unique path is to be followed, the player could select it from the list.
In reference to the list, do all available aircraft show on it, or just aircraft of the same type (F/FB/LB/etc)? Is the default upgrade aircraft highlighted?

New Font Option

Using the command line parameter –altFont now switches the game font from 14 point Times New Roman to 15 point Ucida Sans Unicode. This font is a bit larger and may work better on some monitors. Although this feature is unsupported, a goodly number of minor changes to text-boxes, list-boxes and text placement were made to account for the larger font size.

I don't consider it a bug but without a understanding all the diffrent combinations a player could make a bad decision. It would be nice to have something like a Tec Tree for upgrades.
Not sure Mike would have to answer that.

Sorry I did not mean it was a "bug" per se, just an issue that needs clarification.

Oh, sure right AFTER i release my mod... well i will release a counter mod! And i will make a 3-1 attack with my Panzers against your next patch! Okay, just a little to much egg nog and champagne last night.
Seriously, i am extremely pleased to see this change in upgrade paths, i have been fighting for this since UV and am happier than all get out.
'Course this means i have to redo all of my squadron work i have done.. bastards!

The new upgrade path going to the next patch is great.
Since it's going to allow better aircraft to front line units faster, the Zero Bonus needs to be dropped from the game.[;)]

I see it right when the TF is formed, but it happens because - suplise - at some point the captain of the ship that winds up being the fragship has been replaced. I keep thinking I'll be able to catch it, but when I run through the ships in port, all I see is leaders that have already been replaced, and I have no idea when it happened.
The only way to diagnose it, I guess, would be to make a written list of ships and their captains and review it every turn to see when one changes, then re-run the turn and see if it repeats.
Sounds too much like work, to me.
-edit- forgot to mention that all my current games are v. 1.30 patched to v. 1.40, so my information probably isn't very helpful.

I see the "wrong" leader immediately upon completeing ship selection, the very first time the TF details screen appears, before even moving on to the next thing I'm doing. Long before end of orders and turn execution.
Other ships/TFs: A tentative yes. The last time it happened was creating a three AK TF at Darwin. There were ten or so other TFs already docked in the hex and fifty or so ships disbanded in the port. I cannot specifically remember an instance without other TFs/ships, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Will make note to check that from now on.
Just had a thought. Let me check some save game files. Will post again in a bit.
