What hardware configuration do I need to run a smoth and lagfree dedicated server?

Current Hardware/OS configuration:
P4 1800Mhz
512MB Ram
Windows 2000 Server SP4

On the server run's ONLY a StarShatter server nothing else. So my Question is, how many users can it handle?

Anyone got experiences with that?

I guess rule of thumb with servers are it isn't the hardware but the bandwidth. If it is at least 256 kb in/out, I guess it is enough. Processor should definitely be enough, unless you use same machine to play yourself. I'm not sure about RAM, though in last millennia game servers were running way below 100 MB.

As far as I know, dedicated game servers ONLY store information (some games), receive data and transmit data. Minimum hardware requirements for that task are whole lot less than running high end graphic, which should not be case with dedicated servers (meaning: you don't need graphic adapter). Exception is bandwidth, but quarter Mb should be enough for less than 50 players.

The server is connectet on a 100mbit connection!
Bandwith should'nt be the problem!

I have played on your server and it was fine!! Pleasssseee keep it going!!!
The only thing that happened to us was several CTD's. But this isn't your fault, as it happens with other hosting players as well.
I guess we have to keep the faith that a new MP bug-ridden version will come out sometime!

Why wouldn't server run commercial AND demo version of the game at same time? Try it out and you get me in! [:D]

Note: everyone with fixed Internet connection should be able play demo, so in theory it should get more players, also those who have commercial version of the game: why can't they download & install demo too?
