No online play????

A friend and I tried to start a non-lan INTERNET game using our IP addresses as the game name in "Host/Join a Lan Game." It did not work. Furthermore, when we left the space clear (in order to "Search" for a game) it prompted us for an IP address, which we gave, but it still didn't work.

Will there be a patch for this in the future? Or will network play be limited to LANs only?

We spent the last 2 weeks testing just this, so we do know it works. I'm sure with a little more info from you we can get you sorted out and playing over the internet trouble free.

Edit: You need to put the IP in the Host Name box, not the game name box. Based on what you said above it would definitely not work.

Host name: 111.111.111.111. (for example)
game name: Flashpoint Germany
Your Player Name: Ivan the Terrible

the host will definitely need to put his IP in manually and ensure that he identifies the correct IP that is visible to the Internet and not one assigned by a router etc. if he has one.

Yes, this does work and not just for LAN play, we've been playing across the internet. It's a DirectPlay connection, so you do need to make sure that you are using your external IP and that if you have a router or firewall it's set to let Flashpoint Germany's executable through, or forward ports to your internal IP. With any title where two computers are connecting to one another, you need to be a bit conversant with your internet/router/firewall configuration to make sure nothing's getting in the way.

It could be as simple as typing in the address in the wrong place in the game, but if it's not post here and we can give you a few more things to check. The most important thing is that the computer hosting the game be properly configured, the client generally can connect with just about any configuration.

Regards,

- Erik

[:@][:@][:@]Arrrgh! Internet IP play doesn't work for me or my buddy. We have both tried to host a game with zero success. We have have shut down our firewalls, etc. with still no luck. I have high hopes for this game due to the WEGO system, but to fully enjoy it I think it will require online play. What do I do?

OK, TBird3 send me a Private message with your email address.

I will set up a game, and email you my IP, and hopefully walk you through setting it up.

Edit: this goes for anyone else having trouble setting up an online game. As long as I am online, I am available to help get you going.
