I NEED this game. I need to soon. How much longer til it's released? Heck, I'll buy yhe beat version if it lets me tinker with it now.

Things are looking good - bug hunts continue, but I definitely see some light at the end of the tunnel. I'm very happy that Matrix is not letting this one out the door until its well and truly ready.

I agree.
However, since the last Matrix has said is "February", and it is February, it would seem
polite to have provided an official update by now.

There's not much we can say now except that we are working on it and making good progress every day. The most we can really say is that you should have it in your hands sometime between now and the end of March. We want to get it to you as much as you want to get it (maybe more).

Understood.
It's just frustrating because of the lack of visibility on our end. You can at least see the progress everyday, we have to wait until someone asks about it again and you reply. And even then, it's not the same as seeing the progress.
How about a bug count down or something

I'm prepared to wait as long as I have to until the playtesters are ready.
I'm enough of a realist to know that even if they held on to it another three months, that would not equal the playtesting time the game will get in the first day that it gets released.
The combination of various hardware and software configurations, sheer hours of use and the odd things that gamers do that a playtesting group won't means there are going to be issues no matter how it is tested in house. If the game ships in a playable form with no game killing bugs than that is all I am looking for, and any other issues are in the realm of patches.
I do think that GGWAW is going to be more of a mainstream hit than the traditional Matrix titles, and with wargame neophytes struggling with some conceptual issues that grogs know intuitively, Matrix is probably going to be busier than usual post release.
I hope that is the case, at least.

I too am a lurker on this board. I have all the other Matrix games and this is anouther one I fully intend to purchase. While I also want it as soon as posible I am prepaired to wait for a finished product. All too often they the publishers push the game devolpers to get it out the door before it is finished.
Salute

I can promise you that it will be released exactly on April 1st... and you can take that to the bank because not only am I a tester on the project, I am also the project coordinator and the lead programmer.
Wait...does mentioning April 1st qualify me for an April fools joke or do I have to actually wait till April? If not, forget everything I said [:'(]

Of couse you're happy - you're already playing the game for months now.
We always hear about folks who are happy to wait to get a good product. Problem is even with the wait the product is not much better off than it would have been a month or two earlier.
Thanks playtesters; artillery for Russia?

Just want to thank the playtesters for refining the game and providing excellent AARs. By the way, why does Russia really need to buy lots of artillery early, it seems to me Russia buys lots of infantry in any game I play and can only afford other units after they have "survived"?
I guess in the new Axis and Allies, artillery is worthwhile for the Russians too now, so maybe it isn't so strange.

The quick answer is artillery gets to shoot twice during a battle. If your opponent has significantly more artillery than you, you will find yourself in a world of hurt. [:D]

I agree with those sentiments - of course, Germany can overcome this obstacle with plenty of air support (since artillery is vulnerable to tactical & strategic air units).
As the Soviet Union, you have to bleed the Germans even as you are pushed back - and artillery is perfect for it (tends to damage lots of infantry). Your militia helps absorb the blows & hopefully you'll be in a good position for a nice winter counteroffensive.

Personally I don't want to see a PARADOX sort of release of this title. It's important for it to be polished and finished upon release. Minor bugs I expect. Major bugs and CTD's are going to be a major disappointment.
So, take all the time you need, even if it means another year.

I'd rather wait another year than be pissed at an early release of trash like Paradox games.

I think you'll be very impressed - 2by3 has done a great job from the beginning. Even the Alpha was rock solid & has only gotten better since then. I think you'll be seeing this sooner, rather than later.

Hahaha Spurning the competition! Good show!
