I keep looking through all your threads on this new combined effort mod and I just realized something. I'm having those same anxious feelings I was having when WITP was getting close to being released last spring/summer.

I keep saying things like "ooooooooo" and "wow!!" and "I can't wait!!!"

Anyway, I just wanted to say "Thanks" to all of you who are putting time and effort into something that will make WITP better.

This effort too has perked my curiousity. And in fairness, since the moderators get a bunch of, "When's it going to be ready" ...............

When's it going to be ready [:D]

Just out of curiosity, have you guys best guessed a deployment timeframe ? Just curious whether v1.5 will beat this one out and you'll play changeover, or ware you guys planning on holding if done to be v1.5 compatible from the getgo ?

I'm certainly interested, but let me throw out something that might offend the combined guys...I will admit up front that I have been playing the South Pacific and Guadalcanal scenarios against AI so I don't have a good feel for the complete breath of the game. But I have been keeping track of the postings in the war room and other rooms. My take is that there have been and continue to be some very quirky problems with the system, bugs, counter intuitive results and inconsistent AI. I also get the feeling that not many people have actually played one of the big scenarios to completion, from '41 through '45, so there may be alot of additional problems that haven't been encountered yet.

Now with that as background what I read in this room is all about getting OB's right, correcting the pictures, etc. but very little about correcting the problems with the basic elements of the game. I've already passed judgement on the worthlessness of the battle scenes, so all this time and effort to get the pictures of the ships and planes correct is somewhat wasted from my perspective. If the intent of the combined scenario is to both deal with the "look" of the game as well as the quality of the playability then I stand corrected.

But as users we don't have access to the code so we can't "correct the problems with the basic elements of the game". What we do have access to are the scenario database files. I'm sure there are many that would like to change the way the game handles certain situations but most of the time that is only possible by altering the code.

Bodhi,

Fair enough...I understand that without access to the code its not possible to change the way the game plays...I guess a more historical order of battle is a first start...

Pacwar,
The combined mod will work with the bug fixes that Matrix gives us in future patches. I see the combined mod as a project that non-matrix personnel can do while Matrix focuses on the bugs and code changes.

I don't feel that their time is wasted on this effort. Even if Matrix doesn't fix another bug, I'll be much happier playing on Andrew's map and Don & crew's OOB. Hopefully, though, Matrix will continue to make code changes for a bit.
