You can play it in a window that can't be resized. It will always take up 1024x768 pixels.

I'm sorry, Please excuse me, I dont understand what that means. Is this another way of saying it does not support multi resolutions

It means that if your screen is set for more than 1024x768, and you set the game to run in a window, it will take up less than the full screen. The higher your resolution, the less screen space taken by the window containing the game. The advantage to this would be you could have multiple windows open at the same time while playing the game. It also means though that you cannot use a higher resolution to try to see more of the game map on the screen at once.

I believe what Wilmore wanted to hear is that the game, in full screen, will support any resolution your desktop is set to, and it will.

Two modes are available. Fullscreen, which supports any resolution your desktop uses at the moment, and windowed, which uses fixed 1024x768 window, and is handy when you want to do other things in the background etc.

O.

This is good news, I am glad that we have the option of doing both fullscreen and windowed. I love it when games are windowed it makes it easier for me.

Yes, windowed wargames are great. In most wargames there's absolutely no need for display to be "locked" in fullscreen, and windowed is sometimes very practical - when you play at work for instance [:D]

Who would ever do something like that? [;)]

I think what Wilmore really wanted to know was whether the full-screen game could have different resolutions. For WaW it is apparently fixed at 1024 * 768. The system automatically adjusts the screen resolution if a game has a different value set than the Windows desktop. So, if you are running your desktop at 1600 * 1200 and you start up WaW the screen resolution is reset to 1024 * 768 and when you quit WaW it restores the screen resolution to 1600 * 1200. The advantage to being able to change your full-screen resolution is that 3D will often look better (this was more important before things like FSAA) and in the case of 2D you might be able to see more of the game environment.

Yes Serian that is correct. If *that* is indeed what Wilmore meant in his post, then I didn't understand him clearly enough.

I really wanted to know if the game came with the option of choicing more than one sceen resolution. I rescentally was playing the game Civ III, the graphics looked very poor. the game only supported one resolution. Then I read somewhere that by adding KeepRes=1 to the config ini file the resolution in the game would be the same as your desktop. So now I play tha game in 1600x1200 Fullscreen can this be done with all game?

PS I ask the same question on the HOI II forum and my thread was deleted!

I know one of the people at the HOI2 forum was pissed about the fixed resolution because if you have an LCD screen (where the pixel size is hardwired to the display) then the game plays in a little rectangle in the middle of your screen.

That's what you get for using an LCD screen! (Of course, the up side is you can usually use it as a high def TV on the side).

I love the fact that we will be able to play this in a window. The only games that should really need to lock your screen in this day and age are 3D rendered games. I hope we see more strategy games that can be run in a window like this!

LCDs or TFTs have various capabilities of interpolation. People with these type of monitors often simply do not care about these features when they buy one or do not bother to consult the manual [;)]

I LOVE my LCD screen and it plays games beautifully. The main reason I like it so much is that it doesn not strain my eyes like the old CRT displays. It is a more even and moderated type of light. At work I am forced to use the CRT display they give me and I invariably end up with migrains and flashing lights in my eyeballs that force me to close my eyes for minutes at a time. (Try explaining that behavior to your boss!
