Working Hangar Doors

I know this was brought up somewhere. The idea was to use the langing gear structure to create moving parts like hangar doors, so you could keep small ships from flying in and shooting you from the inside. Well, I made them for my Yamato BB (which now has a hangar). The good news is, they work like a champ and look VERY cool. Here's the bad news. There is the annoyingly present GEAR DOWN flag in every view and they are visual only. I launched and landed fighters right through the closed doors.[:(]
Unless there is a new structure created, I don't know how to make them "solid" enough to prevent the "fly inside and shoot away" problem.

Actually, that could be a problem.

I had an LCA with a Phalanx turret on top. While still in the launch bay, the turret started engaging a fighter that was nearby. Royally f-----up the launch bay! The turret you describe would either have to be very small and extremely powerful, or it could be more an "invisible hand of doom" that kills with one shot, and you never really have to model anything.

I was actually hoping that just some good old fashioned hangar doors would do the trick. Maybe Milo can do something with this?

its similar to the problem with turrets, things that arnt actualy a part of the model but are extras dont seem to be solid, Eg the big battleship i made the turrets you can fly thro for turrets it isnt realy a problem as i can add an invisable box the same shape as the turret inside it. altho the barrels will still be ethereal

just having another rethink i can understand why turrets are not realy there due the ships with a load of Point defence turrets shooting them selfs

I would argue that they very much should be there (turrets I mean). The "shooting yourself in the fo--turret" can be solved by carefully setting your firing arcs. In RL this is not something that can be overlooked, nor should it be in this game. Why? It's called a window of vulnerability. If you look closely at the firing arcs on my Yamato BB, you can see that I deliberately left a few "blind spots" in the PD coverage. This was because I didn't want the PD firing through my ship or turrets. Milo's stock ships have a glaring gap in most all the designs and that is the bottom arc.

Again, I think some code or something might need to be reworked to make the turrets, etc solid.
