Well I like it

Everyone has their .02, so here's mine.

I dig this game [:)]

The lack of pure infantry counters doesn't bother me....I understand the rationale. If the developers choose to include this feature in a later version, fine. But it is not a deal breaker for me.

The SOP feature is well implemented. If I want a unit to provide forward observation, not firing on enemy assets unless their within spitting distance -- I have that. If I want recon troops to shy away from defenders they come across in an attempt to find an alternate route -- I have that. If I have nice long range gunnery platforms and I want them to stick around and fire away -- I have that. Do or Die or flexible battle lines. It's there.

The game doesn't "plod." The interface is easy to understand. The graphics easy to take in, and the audio solid. I've played a few scenarios now and there's been tension a plently for someone like me. No "tedium" here.

I LOVE Tacops, but this game to me is even more immersive, especially when I have enemy artillery landing around my HQ because my radio traffic levels were too high. And like Tacops, I feel there's a lot of substance hidden behind a game that seems awfully simple at first. The more I dig, the more I find that makes me smile.

There are few FUN modern titles out there. If you want tedium, I can point ya to some other titles. I got 'em, turned around and had to pass them on to someone hungry for hardcore sims that somewhere stopped being games.

What's more, the developer is here taking your input. I'm not trying to start anything. I just don't want to see a game that's just hit the shelves lose its support base because the people who do like it aren't pointing out what works and looking for ways to take it further (like my "tentative suggestion" command post).

Apparently there are some folks who aren't taken in by FPG. That's fine. But I hope I'm no in the minority when I say I see a lot to appreciate here (BTW --I have seen a good number of folks vouch online for FPG), and it'd make my day to see more titles and products released using this same approach. Just my thoughts. Just because I used to be a reporter and I know you ALWAYS hear the negative. And hardly ever get to read the positive.

I like it too for all of the above features, but I always win. If we just had a little tweaking of the AI or some redesigned scenarios, that would be great.

CommC,

So when you say redesigned scenarios, what do you have in mind?

I like it! For one, I enjoy having a good looking game that doesn't take a week to play.

As for always winning, isn't that the way a war is supposed to turn out? [:D]

Well, when I say redesigned scenarios, I mean in a scenario designed to be played as NATO vs the WP, put less Nato material on the map and more WP. We may have to make separate scenarios, each designated as designed to be played as NATO, WP or PBEM.

I think that's a solid suggestion. The CM series will often include advice from the scenario designer on which side to use in a single-player game, or which faction should be played by the more experienced gamer in a PBEM.

The AI might need to be reworked. I dunno. In the two scenarios I've played as the Germans against the WP, it wasn't any worse than what I've seen in other titles. In fact, in my second game, I actually watched the Russian FSE pin one part of my line while the rest of the follow-up forces shifted their movement to exploit a break that had occured in my right flank. Now that was Neat [:)]

That being said, folks here seem to think it needs tweakin', and they probably do have a point.

I too like this game very much. I had great and not so great moments. When i test wargames i always check the AI. And the AI needs a bit tweaking - but the designer heard our feedback and will give us a patch - great customer relationship :)

As for scenario designs. I think that with more and smaller units for WP forces you give WP a very good deal to maneuver. As for now i see a lot of platoons on NATO side and a lot of companies or even bats on OpFor side. I splitted down the companies and bats to platoons - and had a very very frightening attack from the WP that drove me from my positions by pinning, flanking and what not. With the AI tweaks announced and some custom scenarios i think that this game will be even more better.

I thought to breakdown the PACT to smaller then companies when making the scenarios, but just never did.

Just to let you all know how the scenarios came around, Greyshaft wrote up the scenario description using some of the original SimCan scenarios with a skeleton OOB/TOE. Sabre21 took the time to make sure the OOB/TOE made sense adjusted it accordingly. I then put it all together. It was a very interesting process and working with both Greyshaft and Sabre21 was great.
