Some units have a fighting range of more than 1. Can yo describe what that means?

All units fight in the same area (zone). you move into an area and attack.

The ranges are for the combat routines to see who fires first as the units engage in combat. for instance artillery at range 3 will fire first and losses taken from the defender before the Range 2 combat units firem, and then finally the range 1 units fire. It is possible for longer range units to fire more than once in a combat at different ranges.
