What is your favorite SPWAW scenario? I nominate Steel Shield by Wild Bill Wilder.

The Schoolhouse by M4 Jess Housley. A savage, bloody street battle with a good balance of infantry, AFVs, and artillery. The battle is set during Kursk. I don't think it is on the MC CD, but M4 was e-mailing to people a couple of months back.

'No Easy Place' was the first scenario I played and is still my favorite. For those who havn't played it yet, it's a German outpost under Russian assault.

'Brave Men of Betio' and 'The Flying Chindits' are two others I keep recommending.

I always like "Chateau de Quesnoy". (sp??) What I like best is the map. Aces to whoever put it together. I've never seen a map that can dictate the play of a game so well.

I've created a scenerio with the same map called "Return to Quesnoy". US Army attack vs. German SS defend. Summer 44. Same plot, newer units, with the SS defending now.. kinda fun.

Thanks for your responses!

Is The Schoolhouse available for downloading? Would love to give it a try.

No Easy Place was also my first SPWAW scenario. Very good, well balanced, plays well from both sides and always comes down to the last few turns.

Also found Brave Men at Betio and Flying Chidits fun.

Will have to check Chateau Qusnoy, my favorite scenarios are Amer vs Ger, so I have probably seen it. Look forward to Return to Quesnoy. Let me know if you need a playtester.

Very interesting thread, gentlemen! Good to know what appeals to you.

Its so hard to pinpoint one. I guess I could approach it from the point of view of which one I designed in which I had that special feeling of inspiration and personal enjoyment in playing after doing it...Maybe the top five for me in designing them:

Brave Men at Betio - First time I had an SP game in which I had so many new tools, infantry wading to shore, all sorts of Japanese fortifications, etc.

Lightning Strikes - My first (and only) effort at recreating the fighting between Norway and Germany. It was incorporating the ammo packs that the Paratroopers had to get that appealed to me here.

Moment of Truth - Kursk has always been fascinating. This tank heavy advance by the Liebstandarte against the toughest Soviet resistance has a feel to it.

Desperate Measures - Jumping off the destroyer Campbelltown and racing to the objectives to beat the Germans, then get them exited. Whew! Still love to play that one.

I'm gonna save the #5 slot...though tempted to say the Ramelle SPR one...just for the memory flashes it brings to mind if nothing else...but no, not yet. I'm gonna think on it.

I think my favourite is "a simple command"

It's the infantry scen where your orders are to straighten the front line for no other reason than it looks better on the commanding officers map....good background, good scen...

I must be nuts: North of Psel

Huge, complicated, long, great playability. Wish I could do something like that in future :D

Thanks Alexandra! I had let that one slip my mind! I've played it quite a few times myself.

Saving the prisoners is always a challenge ;)
