Helos and Chemicals

Hi All.
I was playing NATO in the A Few Good Tanks scenario. Moved my reinforcing helo unit of a Cobra and Kiowa in to do some recon and maybe a little attacking. They did that just fine, but then the WP dropped some chemicals on them and took them both out. Should this have happened? I know the patch altered the success rate of artillery vs. helos, cause, after all, they can just fly away. Shouldn't that be the case with the helos as well if chemicals are used? Maybe they just got a lucky shot. Or is the formula different because they were probably flying low looking for targets so the Cobra could pop up and let loose a TOW and got caught in the gas?
Anyhow, overall I find the AI to be acceptable, but I am just a casual war gamer (usually play my xbox). But I do find myself playing the other side to try different tactics. I do find the AI much improved though.
Thanks.
