Stereo Sound Upgrade

I've just upgraded to version 6.1 but have not yet installed the sound upgrade patch. I was just wondering what a difference this makes to the sounds in the game? Unfortunately I do not have a good set of speakers on my computer, just a small set of cheapos. Is the difference in sound worth me going out and investing in a good set of speakers, and if so what kind are recommended, subwoofer, 3D surround, etc?
I'm not using the computer for music, just gaming so it's never been an issue before, but if you other gamers are noticing an enhancement to the game sounds then I might just spring for some good sound equipment.

When I got my new Pentium 4 in January, I decided to go for the good speakers with sub-woofer. I don't do music, just SPWaW. The new sounds are fantastic! I keep the volume up and submerge myself in the battles. One example: When some crazy Russian throws a Molotov cocktail at your tank, you can hear the bottle break!

And the overrun and melee make you want to start shouting for the Medics!

I have the Altec Lansing small 2.1 speaker system, with a Turtle Beach sound card, a new P3 computer. The sounds are very much worth having decent speakers with a subwoofer, the Altec is mid-line and doesn't cost all that much at the discount houses.
Can practically guarantee you won't regret upgrading your speakers for the SPW@W sound files. Wait until you hear the battery commander yelling, the whistles for the assault, that faint rumbling in the distance alerting you to the presence of the dreaded Tiger, the spectacular rocket barrages, there are many such sound files yo will enjoy with better speakers.
My next speakers - not right away - will be the Klipsch 2.1, and I wouldn't go for that unless I played SPW@W a lot.

I didn't download the stereo upgrade for just the pleasure of hearing everthing in stereo, the upgrade is over 200MB and I have a slow modem...
But it solved a sound bug for me and that was well worth the downloading time, but of course it didn't make the sound experience less nice

Ok guys, thanks. Now you've gone and whetted my appetite for more computer hardware. Problem is I've just gone and ordered the Mega disk, which with shipping and conversion will cost me nearly $100 Canadian. The Missus is gonna flip if I now go out and splurge more. But thanks for the info, now I can show her that there really is a need to upgrade the sound hardware.

Has anyone been able to actually connect to the server lately to download the stereo upgrade? I've tried day and night to no avail.

Personally I just love the breaking Smornoff Bottle when the molotov goes off.

With the stereo sounds, I now always leave fast artillery "off". The sound of an enemy tank brewing up is pleasing, too. The overruns--tank panic indeed! If the family is away, I plug a patch cord into my main stereo speakers. If I only had some flashing red and yellow strobe lights---the neighbors would really be scratching their heads. "Excuse me, Officer, but it sounds like there's a war going on next door!"

Does anyone have the answer to this question? 200MB is a lot for my modem to digest.

I just tried to DL the upgrade - got an "Invalid Archive" message when I finished. Possible reason given was a corrupt file - anyone else have this problem?
