A Few Questions

Regarding the "On to Paris" 76 turn scenario - just what circumstances have to occur for the German 319th Division to "Alert"? I vaguely recall glossing over the "Alert" portion of the game manual - just what's involved here and as an Allied player, how much attention should I pay to it?

Lastly, regarding artillery - I'm a bit unclear from a defensive perspective: Is only the best arty unit (meaning just one unit) selected for defensive purposes or can multiple arty units in range all provide defensive combat shifts?

You need to gather enough alert points so that a unit appears. Alert points are gained (for you or the other side) when a city is captured. Check each city objective popup to see if alerts are provided, and for which side. The alert system simulates advances that have folloup effects in the chain of command outside the current battle scope, eg. when you lose too many cities fast, High Command releases new units.

You have no say as to which unit is released first. I'd say read the whole chapter from the manual, it is important.

Regarding defensive arty. One (the best) arty is selected automatically for defense. Doesn't matter if arty has fired or not during last movement round, and the same arty can be used in many defensive battles during the same turn.
