CHS - china

I recall someone mentioning that we probably won't on china until version 2, but I wanted to toss out a few ideas and see if I could get the ball rolling. Early bird gets the worm, you know.

One idea that pops to mind would be to change devise number 371 - Chinese Rifle Squad. as it is, this devise is only 13 vs. soft targets. it increases to 18 on 12/42, then to 26 on 12/43. This means in the latter part of the war, when china was getting their butts kicked, their squads are going to be twice as powerful as they are in the beginning. I think increasing their anti-soft capability will help solve at least some of the china pushover problem without making china a juggernaut late in the war (which I fear may happen if the next offical OOB changes chinese corps' to 3 division formations).

Also, several people have mentioned using fortress units in key cities. I think this is a great idea. However, keep in mind that they have to be "Fortress-type Units". I experimented with adding immobile devises to mobile units and found that these formations would retreat as soon as the immoble devises were damaged or destroyed.

Another possible idea might be increasing the I-16c and I-153c pool a little to reflect the fact that if china had found themselves in a bind early on the USSR probably would have released more of their obsolete craft.

Also, maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else, but I've always pictured Yenen as a rugged communist stronghold (keep in mind this is coming from the same guy who thought Hong Kong fell in one week [:D]). Maybe Yenen should be another terrain besides open, especially since it's already the most commonly picked on chinese city due to its proximity to the Kwantung Garrison.

Anyway, there are mostly brainstorms trying to get the ball rolling. Any other chinese ideas out there?

Another idea to add depth to chine would be to add ship accessible land hexes up the Yellow River, much like the hexes leading to Portland. This would enable us to include Chinese river gunboats. This wouldn't really help china hold out longer, but it would be an interesting historic addition.

the gunboats would be bombed to pieces by the sonias....sadly due to the hex sizes it is hard to model real china

True. As far as China's gunboats are concerned, I was thinking along the lines of the new Hong Kong gunboats - they don't stand a chance, but are there for the added detail. Any JApanese river boats would be useful for bombardment, but Japan really doesn't need any extra help in that theatre.

By the way, one thing I had thought of was to have the river hexes separated from the ocean by a land hex. That way Ocean going craft couldn't be used in the river and river gunboats couldn't be used in the ocean.

Anyway, it's just an idea. Not neccessarily a good one, but an idea nonetheless.

I think that Chinese are in bit low with support squads. How about adding few more HQ units to help them recover from combat better ??

Cheers,

M.S.

China don't receive any new Soviet plane after 1940. Chinese airforce was decimated in 1940 when Zero was first used in combat and URSS retired most of its airmen from China in 1940-1941, before it was attacked by Germany.

URSS had another thing to do than sending planes in China. It used every available plane on its own front.

On the other hand, China began to receive American P-43 planes early in 1942; or maybe even sooner.

P-43s are implemented in CHS and there are two Chinese P-43 squadrons.

P 43 Lancers are now in the game and one Chinese squadron can upgrade to them.

Ron - it's two squadrons now. I reviewed the history of the 4th Group and decided to set two of it's squadrons (22nd and 24th) for P-43s. This is to make up for the P-66s, which are not included.

Hey Ron, if you can talk Andrey, Ian, and Mike into it, maybe we could have P-66s??

Hey, why not!? Actually, I thought we were when the P-66 first came up.
