1941 campaign (report)

I finally had some time (long easter weekend) to commit myself to the full Barbarossa thing.
Controlling the Axis against the AI (even balance) things took off smoothly.
The first weeks saw massive "Kesselschlachten" and the near anhiliation of the Bolshevik air force.
My intention was to send AG Center straight to Moscow, and have AG South link up as soon as they had dealed with Kiev...
Kiev proved to be a real PITA... Frustrated by the stubborn resistance I bypassed it and moved on, but precious time had been lost and Soviet resistance in the South was increasing...
Meanwhile in the North... Leningrad... pfffft... the Finns took a good beating very early on, so their support was neglectable...
AG Center did rather well, advancing into a huge bulge towards Moscow (see attached screenshot)... But as the first snow fell so went my hopes of capturing the Soviet capital... The frontline got stretched too far to keep it maintained, so massive gaps were appearing... The infantry of AG Center and any support from AG South came too late to be of any asistance... During the first blizzard the Soviets launched a massive pincer attack (Uranus style) cutting off my precious panzer korps... Of the four involved in the battle for Moscow, only one managed to escape the pocket, needless to say in a battered state...
The Soviets were in that good shape that they could launch their counterattack on a broad front which I only managed to halt by May 1942 on a line from Lake Peipus to Kiev... (see screenshot in next post)
Better luck next time [;)]
