Bug: Sound problems with combat animations...

Hello,

sometimes (but not always!) you can't hear any fighting sounds while watching the combat simulation with these fancy small soldiers. The music keeps playing, but you hear no shooting sound.

Have you noticed any other sound problems on your installation? Please make sure your sound drivers and DirectX are updated to the latest versions. If that doesn't help, please post a DxDiag file here (see instructions in pinned thread in this forum). Thanks.

Regards,

- Erik

Hi Erik,

I have the latest sound drivers. I tested several situations while watching (and hearing) combat animations. I want to explain:

1. If there are planes involved in the battle, you only hear some strange flying sounds (from a jet, not a ww2 figher?), but no combat sounds at all.
2. If there are no planes involved, "only" some sounds (mainly firing sounds) are not played.

Otherwise, I could not hear any sound problems so far.

I'll add my dxdiag in a new post, for better reading.

Thanks for your support.

Ciao Frank

We're checking into this and the crash reports, I can't give you an answer now but we hope to have some possible builds for people with severe issues to try either later this week or early next week.

- Erik

I just tested this issue on my old second PC. It's a "slow" Pentium III 1,3 Ghz with 512 MB RAM and a Audigy 1 card. On this old PC, there are no problems at all, each and every sound is played, even the planes have correct sounds.

How can this happen? Is my current PC too fast? It's a Pentium 4 660 @ 4,0 Ghz.

Thinking about the difference between "fast" and "slow" PC's, I tested some things:

I found a solution: you have to turn the "hardware acceleration" for Direct Sound with dxdiag to "minimal". Then, I can hear all sounds again. Perhaps you find a way to solve this issue in that way that you don't have to turn off hardware acceleration in order to hear all sounds.

I hope I could help you a little bit. The new dxdiag is attatched with the needed settings.

That would have been my next suggestion. If this is helping you then we have an issue with the driver, respectivly sound card here. Not in general with this card since I rnu the same one, with the same drivers for example.

I have a question, did you install any third party sound codecs, like those that come with those popular codec packs you can download from the internet?

No, I use the official drivers from this site:

I dont mean the drivers. I mean codecs. Codecs are needed to decode (or encode) movie and sound files. For example the DivX codec (that you have installed on your system)

Here are the audio codecs:

Are there any problems?
