Anyone else having problems with irregular map scrolling? I have tried lots of different
scroll speeds from 1 to 7 and low and high graphics but it always seems to zoom past Europe but get jerky in other areas. Any ideas?
Thanks, Chris

Be sure you have virtual memory of at least 1500 MB, the more the better. It will load as much of the map in as it can. If you don't have a lot of video memory and/or system memory it will slow down when it loads in more of the map.

Thanks Joel. I increased it to 4096 which is the max. Now about half the map scrolls smoothly while the other half remains very jerky. If I use the low graphics option it seems better which is a bit of a shame as I have a reasonable system - GeForce FX 5200 PCI / Pentium 4 2.5 / 512 RAM. Should I be able to run with high graphics?
Cheers, Chris

Unfortunately probably not, although I'd have to see your dxdiag (mostly to see how much video RAM you have). If it's less than 128 MB than yes, for sure you need to play at 16 bit. This game likes RAM more than processor speed.

Hobbes,

Your processor is fine, but that's a slow video card by today's standards (and on the PCI bus, for some reason, which slows it down more). Also, 512Mb of RAM is the minimum requirement for this game and basically is what the low graphics mode was designed for. In general, you won't notice much of a difference except for better performance by switching to low graphics.

Have you tried windowed mode? Don't know if this will speed things up, but it's worth a try.

Hobbes your video RAM specs would be interesting. I'm running a similar set-up - P4 2.8, 512 RAM but with a 128MB Geforce 4 Ti4200.

I'm running the game at "high" graphics with the scroll set to 4.0. I'm even running off map animations.

Scrolling can be slightly jerky at times - side to side but not top to bottom. Going from Asia-Europe is fine but getting from the US-Asia again is where things can slow up. However, I also have been using the mini-map to avoid scrolling out of habbit.

This sometimes-jerkiness can be annoying - we get frustrated at half a second's delay at a traffic light! I caught myself at the microwave before with 40 seconds to go seething "come on damn you!" [:D]

But all in all especially with AI turns, things are rapid fire. I've got to slow the AI's movement settings down!

My only issue other than this sporadic scroll lag, is when loading a scenario, I get an hour glass but no loading animation. On my first look at the game I thought it had frozen on me but it was simply waiting to load its scen up.

Adam.

Thanks chaps, I had assumed my machine would be OK as I can play games with fast moving graphics such as World of Warcraft without any problems. I have have put it in low graphics mode and it still looks fine - just have to read through the instructions now - looks like a great game!
Thanks
Chris

P.S. My graphics card is also 128MB but an FX 5200

Hobbes,

The main limitation is the PCI bus, it's very bad for moving large graphics files like World At War needs to do for the map. In addition, your system memory is at the minimum requirement. To play World of Warcraft, I'm sure it's automatically adjusting your settings to a lower graphics mode, it's just that in GGWaW you have to change the setting yourself.
