How much research?

I have been trying to balance my initial builds for germany. How much do you like to spend on research each turn in the early game?

I usually spend 8 research points per turn on average in the first two years.

Beware though, I am a complete newbie now, I have played only two campaigns

One thing to keep in mind is that research becomes more expensive as you increase your military force pool, so you will have the cheapest costs early in the war, but as you build more units, the cost per research point goes up..so try getting a jump on the research you want to do early before the cost increase too much.....

What is the rate that research costs go up based on units?

Is it +2 cost / 5 units?

+1 per five units or fraction there of. so no units cost 5 -1 -5 units cost 6, 6-10 cost 7 etc.

You also have to look at your standing realtive to teh "stateof the art" - going to two over costs 5 extra, 3 ver 10 extra, etc. That may be where you are seeing the extra cost come in.

Okay the research just confuses me. I am just figuring out production (noted someone said don't buy factories - TOO LATE). When I research something that is for example value 2 (0/7), that means I have to spend 7 research to get it to go to value 3. Does the colored flask mean anything other than an indicator that says, hey, you're researching something here but you ain't getting it soon (red).

Is there the chance that if the flask is green but I'm like 2 (6/7), that it will jump to 3? do I have to keep feeding the bear here?

Sorry if this is intuitive to yall but I'm confused.[X(]

What confuses me is sometimes I can spend 1 point, sometimes 2, sometimes 3, etc. It is kinda hard for me to figure out how long it will take to research something :)

You basically have to match the 'breakthrough level" to get a breakthrough. The exception is if you don't have a full multiple of 5 units of the type you are researching, the screen "rounds up" and reflects the same if you have 6 units or 10 units - +2.

WHne you end the turn and it looks to see if you have enough - if you are in this situation where you should have "6.2" cive "7" for haivng 6 units fielded/inproduction it rolls to give you credit for only really needing "6.2" (a 4/5 chance of "making it on 6 rather than the "Rounded up" 7.

The amount you can spend is 1 thefirst turn. 2 the second turn, 3 every turn thereafter, unless you are researching "above the state of the art" and then for each "multiple of 5" the 3 is multiplied.

Ok, I figured out the 1, 2, 3 thing, it was in the manual :)

Its the way it multiplies when you get above the "state of the art" that can seem confusing if you have lots of units and its not clear what the components of the "breakthrough level" are. It would be nice to have an indication of the current max you add rather than how much you have spent (which is obvious from teh chart...) in the little screen that comes up.
