A question concerning Advanced Supply

When people are using Advanced Supply do you use Area Supply or move 1 truck to every country by hand?

This seems a bit tedious to me.... but I'm not sure if the AI will do it properly?

Also, I tend to like to learn without any "edges" given to me... so far I've been playing Advanced Supply only. I'd like to hear veterans chime in on what makes for the richest gaming experience....

Also, on a side note, I've been trying to find in the forums if the Fog of War only makes it harder for the player (i.e. the computer still knows where all of your units are - especially subs) or if the computer simulates FoW as well?

Thx,

J

The FOW thing was answered on several other threads NO FOW has no effect on how the AI plays.

I think the manual movement only supply rule is too much micromanagement. I play with advanced but automove which speeds up the turns quite a bit.

Automove does not necessarily make things easier, however. Sometimes the AI will have sent all the supplies to places where you need them, leaving you unable to ship a few to some spot where you think you need more. This is especially true for troosp who are beyond your rail net and cannot be immediately supplied. The supply Ai is willing to let those starve since it cannot reach them in one turn. The Human can manually get supplies into the area so that the units can be supplied on future turns, assuming the AI has left any supplies unmoved.

I have also had the automove deny me a late game gambit of taking Scotland to stall. All my transports had loaded a few supplies to keep Norway and Finland happy and could not be moved to Scotland.

Advanced supply is not just taking supplies from the area you are in, and thus is not as labor intensive as might be supposed, (quoting from the manual):
When using Advanced Supply, the supplies used will
be selected by the following priority system:
1. From the region the unit occupies before the current move.
2. If there is no supply in the region it occupies before its current move, it tries to
get it from a region adjacent to the region that the unit occupies before its
current move (it will look for the region with the largest amount of supplies on
hand).
3. If there are no adjacent regions with supplies (or with enough supplies), it will
take supply from the region the unit occupied at the start of the current turn.
4. If there is no supply (or not enough supply) in the above case, it will take
supply from the region adjacent to the region that the unit occupied at the start
of the current turn (it will look for the region with the largest amount of supplies
on hand).
5. If there is no supply (or not enough supply) in the above case, if Auto Supply
rules are in effect (set in the Game Options screen before the scenario is
begun, see section 2.3.4) the computer will move a supply unit from the closest
region that it can draw supply from.
If no supply is available, then no movement is allowed.

Note that Auto Supply only comes into play at step 4.

To me, working out the advanced supply, taking advantage of the network model it was coded to, is one of the best features of the game. [:D]

ps. you can usually undo supply moves that were taken by Auto Suppy or Area Supply.

I always scan my territories for supplies that got moved by the AI - just in case I want to move them back (or in dire straits, move them one at a time to a more threatened front).
