Is there any difference between strategic and tactical bombers with the same exact unit attributes? Or in other words, do either have any special abilities?

Yes, heavy bombers can carry paratroopers and airlift troops and supplies. Otherwise, I think they would be the same.

Speaking of which, do the Heavy Bombers actually bombard the same turn they're ferrying troops? If so we may have a candidate for the WaW unit MVP. That's versatility!

Yes, and when they drop paratroopers into enemy areas, they definitely participate in the combat.

I thought there might be some kinda bonus to using them as strategic bombers. May be a good thing ot mod. Make their air attack lower, but give them a bonus when attacking ports/rail/infrastructure.

BTW, I think it is ridiculous that strat bombers can in the same attack, drop a paratrooper unit and bomb the enemy. I think I would have liked a dedicated air transport unit. That's probably not moddable.

You may be right about having a separate air transport unit.

However, I can tell you that not having a separate one is the difference between me occasionally using airdrops and never doing so.

In games that have a separate air transport unit, they tend to be very expensive. I almost always look at the cost for something I may never use or only use once and I do not buy them.

Since I do ocassionally buy some heavy bombers that means that I might actually do some airdrops. As a matter of fact, the WA has a nasty tendency to not garrison Gibralter after about '42, so I just drop in the paras to snag it.

indirectly there is another special ability to strat bombers. even though tactical could be researched up to the same range as the heavies, since the heavies base range will always be higher, it will always be more expensive to increase the range further on the tacs than on the heavies.

Don't forget with enough R&D they drop nukes! [8D]

Remember turns last three months. I never heard of para operation that went on for three months [:D]
