combat phases

Just had a quick question about the combat phases (ie. air to air, air to ground etc.)
If an air unit involved in air to air combat is hit, does it then get to be involved in air to ground combat?
and If a ground unit is hit in air to ground phase, does it then get to participate in the land vs land combat?
Also I had another question: what is the difference in sending a group of aircraft in to attack airfields vs just a general attack?

Yes, if not hit twice.
Yes, if not hit twice.
An airfield attack will only involve air units and AA units in the target area. This is good to so if you have more air units than your opponent. Take out his air first with an airfield attack, then do a general atack on the area.

Thanks, I had another question though.
Is it better to perform attacks on regions in a big bunch or to do it in smaller pieces? For example sending fighters in to knock out air cover, then sending bombers to knock out artillery, then send troops in. Or just send everyone in at once?

Actually, I think that planes hit once in the air to air or by flak will not bomb. Can't remember about ground units, but they may also be picked up before the ground to ground. I do know that once in ground to ground, units damaged during range 2 fire will still fire at range 1, but at a disadvantage.

That's a really hard question to answer....[:(]
IF I have the forces I like to do an airfield strike first to drive off any enemy planes. After that I hcan't deside if it's better to send your bombers and land units togther or separate. If your bomber have a high evasion rating then sending them in first to pick off any arty is a good idea. Anyextra will also fire at other ground troops and if not damage/kill them at least redce their evasion rating for when you send in the ground pounders.
Clear as mud, eh? [;)]

Do bombers reduce evasion?

Any unit previously shot at during the current turn is -1 evasion for the rest of the current player's turn. So if a bomber attacks a ground unit, that ground unit will be -1 when any other ground units attack it.
The airfield attack allows attacking planes to bomb air units on the ground (with there ground attack rating) after they have engaged in air to air combat. They are subject to flak. It is a great way to destroy enemy airpower.

So it would be better to attack in steps then rrather than throw everything in at once.

Don't think it matters, that -1 is applied at the time of the attack. A second unit in the same battle shooting would get that bonus.

Page 64 second to last Paragraph in the manual:
"Units that are
damaged or
destroyed in one phase, do not progress to the next phase."
So I take that to mean Air that is damaged in air2air will not ground attack.
