Definitely not. IF you did that you would not only have a micro-managment nightmare but you would waste lots of supplies. Units taht do not move or attack on yoru turn do not need to use supplies.
They will automatically use supplies if available when you give the order to move or attack. The ability to manually pick the area from which supplies are pulled allows you to prioritize during those times when you don't have enough to go around and don't want the automatic system to use them from an area from which other units will want to pull supplies later in the turn.

What I usually do as the last part of my movement phase is switch the view to supplies only so I can see where they are and then bulk move them to protected areas near the front. That way, they are available for defense and on the next turn for attacking. This is especially important as the WA when fighting in Europe / Africa so even if your transport line gets cut, you have supplies locally that can be used while you re-establish the link.
Remember that supplies can move 1 region by themselves for free without using even strategic move resources and then be used by a unit in a neighboring region. That means even if they are two regions from the front, they can be used in an offensive the next turn.

Just remember to save 5 or 10 points of "transport throughput" for moving supplies at the en d of your turn or you will end up like I do at laeast one turn a year - when I use ALL my rail and SLOC troughpt on a glorious plan, anthen realize I'm left screwed for supplies for next turn [:o][:(]
