I haven't looked at the dat files, but does germany seem to get any population increase due to volkstrum (sp?) I'm thinking if not it should be a boost like the Russians get. They would get it any time there is a land attack against either east or west germany. (although historically they had them out sooner being used as garrisons in places like france.) --- and no this not the same as militia they had those as well.

To have a population increase would be not only illogical (population decrease seem more likely in 45 [:D]) but also moot, since in 45 you would not have enough resources and factories to make it count.

But, there is "militia rule" for all combatants (including Germany), when their homeland is invaded, militia units are generated on the fly (one per population point IIRC, while China generates TWO per population point, which is major pain when playing as Japan.).

To clarify a bit. The Militia rule is not really for all combatants. It is just for territories whose nationality is German, UK, US, Japan and I think Canada (could be wrong on Canada.) China has the same rule only they get double.

So if Rumania is invaded, no free militia. Same thing with Poland. To see if a territory will create militia, it is helpful to view the map mode that puts flags on each territory.

I'd say that the design intent is that these free militia represent the Voksturm to some extent. However, it is true that these units saw a lot of service before the bitter end, so the Volksturm is probably factored into the normal population allowance that Germany is given.

I was thinking more along the line that the Russians get a big temporary manpower bump when invaded. While you can use it for just about anything the best bet is to put everything on hold and generate a billion or so militia... thought germany might get something like that the first time they are attacked in Europe, west of poland.
