"Hi Guys
We will be releasing Ilja Moderna add-on of SP3. We are going to make the needed code changes to the SP3 game engine and give it away. This forum will now be used to discuss this game and modern warfare topics. We will be opening new forum for our modern warfare games as they come along.

I will say this now! We are not rewriting the whole code... this is more of a quck add-on to sp3 so please do not bombard us with game changes."

They are making it so you won't need a cd.
The whole game will be included in the download ala spwaw.

Great...I still like the scale of SPIII, but the flawed Arty sytem, especially in WWII (..AT capabilities!) drawed me away from it.
Are these problems fixed somehow? Does they affect modern battles only?
Will check the "Modern forum" later... ;)

I believe that this is a fix for those thirsting for a SPWAW: Modern era game.
There's going to be tweaks to lethality, and OOBs, but nothing beyond that.
No mention of rewriting the Arty routines...

Me, I'm holding out for SP:MBT by SP Camo. It's a SP2 remake on the SPWW2 engine with 90 countries. It sure is a shame to miss all the SPWAW features that would have been in SP:MW and "go back" to SPWW2, but as I personally couldn't care less what happens to SP3, SP:MBT is the best contender.

I have to wonder, though, was there a connection between the cancellation of SP:MW and the announcement of SP:MBT?

Hmmm good question,
I dont know, I find myself missing some of those 1960s and 70s battles. Figured Id check out the sp-mbt as well.

It would be nice to have the OOB projected out to 2020. Once the US has its missle shield up, we can initiate our invasion of the chinese mainland. At the very least, come up with a good US vs. China scenario, from which to develop a modern campaign. Maybe i should dust of Peoples General for some ideas.

I have some 60's and 70's units in some SPWAW OOBs. Tigers shouldn't challenge Olifants.

We are much better off waiting for Combat Leader in that respect.

Plus - Coming after the release of SP:WW2 version 5:

Sp Camo's Steel Panthers : Main Battle Tank (SP:MBT) - pre-announcement

SPMBT has been under development for over three months and will utilize all the map and game improvements of V5 plus all the "modern" SP2 code that was turned off for SPWW2 is now back on with many, MANY coding improvements.

SPMBT will have OOB's for 90 nations and will run from 1/1946 -- 12/2020 so a full range of conflict simulation will be possible . This will allow all present day weapons systems to be modeled AND allow further expansion in the years ahead as new systems are introduced.

The projected release of SPMBT is the end of 2001.

(We will be announcing more details when we have these to hand - but check out the discussion on the Yahoo page - link at top of page)

What is Steel Panthers World War 2?

SPWW2 is a tactical level World War 2 historical wargame. This game is a very highly refined version of Steel Panthers 2 - Modern Battles based on the original SP2 game engine code by SSI/Grigsby/Brors.

It is hexagon based, and the game is an alternating turn based (I go you go or IGOUGO) design.

One unit playing piece represents one vehicle or gun, or an infantry squad (section of up to 13 men) or a section of 1 to 4 support weapons such as MG or mortars.

One game hexagon represents 50 meters of terrain.

One game move (player 1 turn plus player 2 turn) represents between one and 3 minutes of 'real time'.

It is an MSDOS program, but runs fine under most Windows 95 or 98 installations. The game also runs under Windows ME (just follow the Windows 98 Installation in the Game Guide) and in OS/2 as well.

SPWW2 is an entirely freeware game! Please check out the Game Credits section of the Game Guide to see all the good people who have worked hard over the last 3 years to bring this game to you.

If you do not have an SSI SP2 or SP3 CD-ROM, you can still play this game (but without the video from the CD) - check out the installation section of the Game Guide

A little early too tell, but if they follow along the same lines of SPWW2 I would say yes.
