I'm currently playing germany (winter 42). I've more or less got a fleet the same size as the allies but every time I attack their massive group fleet with my own massive fleet, all my damaged units (except heavy fleets) dissappear after the battle. For instance, I am attacking with 1 heavy fleet, 2 light fleets and 5 subs against 2 carriers (1 aircraft), 2 heavy, 1 light and 2 supply. Even if none of my ships are listed destroyed during the battle, any damaged light/sub units simply vanish when we go back to the main map. This also happened when I skipped that attack and used my fleet to attack all allied supply ships then grouped them in alrge fleets mid-atlantic. During the allies turn they attack both fleets and although none were destroyed in the actual battles all damaged subs/light units were gone when my turn game up. FYI: at least 3 subs and 1 light ship were just built and had never been in combat. Anyone????

Your damaged units are going back to be repaired. They go back into the production cycle as if they were half way built. I you select the view units button, on the left side there are two buttons. The bottom one lets you view damaged and destroyed unit for each major power.
