OP Fire

I'm currently playing a PBEM, FOW on. I'm attempting to move units from the UK to reinforce Gibraltar. It is turn two. However, it tells me that I am subject to two OP Fire. Oleg has a fighter and a bomber in Spain. Are these two units the ones that could attack my units? I was under the impression they had to be either a strait or patrolling for this to occur.

IF you move from one sea are to another that are both adjacent to an air unit, they will opfire at you.

If Spain is adjacent to two sea areas that your unit is moving between, then they will op fire as you move from the first to the second area. Since NA9 and NA 10 are both next to Spain, that's probably what's doing it. you need to plot your move around this.

I usually see the op-fire coming from units in W. France because the shortest movement path usually ends up being through the Channel. I end up having to move stuff partway to the NW then pick it up again and finish the move to Gibralter or NW Africa etc.

I think the best reason to take spain is for this op-fire effect. I think its too hard to hold spain/portugal later in the game as germany, requiring too many defenders. yet putting some air untis there makes up for this not only with op-fire, but I nice launching platform for transport strikes.
