Make my mind up for me? ;-)

I've had a look over this game and read some posts and thought it sounds fun...but it's a big change from what I'm used to....

So I need convincing. I'm concerned about the turn based element, how good the AI is and about the "Tin Soldiers" aspect? Is the game carried off well?

I'm used to real time strategy (not Codename Panzers etc...more like R:TW, and AA:RDOA)

Thx for any replies.

Turn based is turned based, but the phased approach helps the game flow very freely. You'll need the thinking time, too.

The AI is good and remarkably "glitch" free, although as always perceptions of that will depend how good the player is. There are a range of difficulties and the hardest will challenge most - and you can always handicap yourself by taking less troops into a battle if you want.

As to "Tin Soldiers", that is pulled off superbly, as it was in Alex. Koios have tried very hard to get a "miniatures" feel and succeeded very well.

Hi Judge,

Why not download the TS:Alexander demo. You will gain a good idea of the game system. If you like it then for sure you will enjoy Caeser considering the improvements made.

Regards John

Murky, thanks for that, I'd have missed it otherwise. Wonder why it's not available here?

It should be, I'll check and make sure a link exists or if not, that a link is added.

Can you play either side solo in this game or just the Romans?

Hi James,

Only the Romans are playable solo. I have just started to play so I cannot tell you exactly how the A.I. pans out. I do have a fair bit of wargame experience so I can say that so far I am very happy with the Babarian A.I.

I am very happy with the AI. It takes every opportunity to attack my flanks and rear and move through any holes I leave in my line. I have played about 5 battles so far and it has always been difficult for me to pull off a major victory.

One of the things I'm concerned about is the size of the maps....they look kinda titchy and square. In fact, the screenshots I saw didn't look like there was much room to manouvre for flanking at all.

Is this the case? Are the maps bigger than they appear on the screenshots?

Hi All,

I am only playing the Helvectic battle at the moment but there is plenty of room to manouver. Lots of fun.

The maps do appear smaller than what you would expect but the scale of the game fits the maps well. I've played halfway through the campaign and not once did I think I need more map space. Another thing that adds to the game is the battles take me several hours to play.
