Unused Devices

I ran MichaelM's WITPCHK against the V1.5 Scenario 15. It highlighted a number of "unused" devices. Some of these are obviously used but by code, not direct reference (like the new 1000 and 2000 lb bombs and the Atomic bomb). Others appear to be actually unused and therefore available for re-use.

Unused are some mines, an asw device, many aircraft weapons, radars, engines, and a bunch of army weapons. Does anyone know of any restrictions on the use of these devices??

Do not repeat do not delete mine slot 123. That's the slot the game looks to to put mines in Allied ports at the start of the game.

Don't delete any bombs either, most of those are ones the game randomly picks, based on experiene rolls and such (such as 198 1000lb AP bomb).

What about the 100 & 400lb ICB? Are they refferenced at all?
Any one know?

Basically, anything below # 255 could be referenced and included on ship or plane device table by program itself.

Difficult to know if # is used this way or not. Only times I have seen some of these has been during animations or in a comabt report.

The LCU ones are unlikely to be used this way.

Really need one of programmers to list which are used by system.[:D]

At this point I am thinking about doing a bit of a switch around with the unused devices after 256 in order to get all "army" devices with a replacement rate > 0 below the cut off. The rest I am afraid to touch - and really have no reason to do so at this time.

Thanks for all the input!

There is a IJ/Allied cutoff:
IJ#: 256 - 314
Allied#: 315 - 517
[Editor manual]

So you can only really move the Allied army stuff into the "dead" area.

All I'm going to do is re-arrange the Allied devices above 517 that have replacement rates so that they are below 517. My plan:

[ol]
[*] Removed unused Australian Independent Section (device 345)
[*] Insert 4 new devices from Pry's Scenario
[ol]
[*] 345 Canadian Rifle Squad
[*] 352 Canadian Rifle Squad
[*] 362 Canadian Engr Squad
[*] 527 Infastructure
[/ol]
[*] Move 4 "biggie" devices from 517+ into remaining empty slots (all in squad section, is that a problem??)
[ol]
[*] Bren Carrier
[*] M8 Armoured Car
[*] Stuart Light Tank (upgrade to Grant Medium)
[*] Stuart Light Tank (upgrade to Sherman Medium)
[/ol]
[*] Move additional devices BELOW 517 that have 0 replacement rate ABOVE 517 to make room to move devices above 517 with a replacement rate back below 517.
[*] If necessary, remove unused devices in the range 315-516 to free up slots.
[*] At some time in the far distant future, after Chinese Cities, after base renaming, after Base supply rework, after Base port/aircraft rework, after Indian Army changes, after Chinese Army Changes, after Japanese army movements, after Canadian squad usage, but probably before squadronization of Japanese airgroups, review devices 315-517 for usage.
[/ol]

For addional free slots below 517, suggest I to move the static CD Guns above 517.
And about new Devices. I suggest:
What about a Dutch Marine Squad for the Dutch Marine Bn and Brigade.
To split ANZAC in AUS and NZ
A Portugese Squad For Hong Kong and Timor

Jo it's the other way around, we need to get any device with a replacement rate ABOVE 517! We're about out of allied slots (315-517) and will soon be replacing unused devices or switch "0 replacement rate" devices south of the 517 border.
