new supply option

After playing a number of games with and without advanced supplies, I've come to the conclusion that using advanced supplies is way too much micro-management for my liking. However, I dislike the simple supply option as units can run amok behind enemy lines with no consequence.
Is there any chance to have an additional supply option? My idea (borrowed from HOI2) is this:
Have it similar to the existing simple supply rules except land units that cannot form a link through friendly controled land territories and/or sea zones with friendly transports to a friendly controled land territory with a factory (or possibly to the capitol) are considered out of supply and have combat penalties.
This would not work well for naval units, so their supply rules could remain unchanged. Or possibly require them to return to an area goverened by the above rules every three turns or so, or else they would be considered out of supplies.
Probably way too hard to recode, but something similar exists already for land units (sort of): lend-lease using simple supply rules, as you need a connection between the two nations in order to use the lend-lease option. As for naval units, if it were to change, the rules for torpedo's could be modified for all naval units (possibly??).
Anyway, just wanted to know peoples thoughts, and whether I am the only person who thinks such an option would benefit the game. Thanks.
BTW, I love the game, I just thought this might be a way to have me waste even more time playing.
