Hi all,

Myself and Swift have started a full war campaign me as Japanese. Neither of us are allowed to read each others topics so please don't divulge any of my info or plans to him and vice versa. If you have any ideas or suggestions on how i'm running things or ideas on strategy feel free to chip in.

Following restrictions apply:

Historical first turn
Sub doctrines off
Extermely variable reinforcements
Manual upgrade of air units
Allied Damage control on
ASW TF's - no more than 5 ships per TF.
Railroad use - no more than 1 division on any 1 stretch of railroad.
China - no wiping out of China. Have said I will not advance past the railroad (seems much harder now due to state of starting forces anyway).

I don't have the AAR for 07/12 but it was a bad one from my perspective. At best 2 BB's were heavily damaged at PH! Also 2 of his subs tagged AP's en route to Kuantan and Legaspi. Other than that a typical first turn.

I plan to follow a fairly logical approach. I will secure the SRA at maximum speed and then progress to the South. Beyond that it all depends on what opportunities arise. If they do I will take them.

Overall i'm fairly happy with how things went. Swift sent out a fair few small TF's from PH. KB sank at least Minneapolis, Detroit and a CL, 2 AVD. It did cost 17 Kates though. KB will stay one more turn and attack PH port this time.

I'm planning on overwhelming the Phillipines and have 3 more divisions en route.

The main areas of note were the PT attack on my CV near PH. I was fuming at the time but I checked the damage and Hiryu should be ok. 19 Sys, 19 Flt and 9 fire [:)] Phew! As I say Swift isn't looking at my AAR and me not at his so don't disclose this.

One of his CV's showed up at Wake and put hurt on my transports. KB will leave PH area now and sink the SOB.

I also attackd both Singapore and Manila ports but Swift has unfortunately cleared them both out. However, my Nells did put some hurt on both Repulse and POW as they steamed up Malacca Straight. I hope to finish them tomorrow.

Here is todays AAR.

A bit anti-climatic. I was hoping to bag POW and Repulse. They have only moved 1 hex so I know where they are but bad weather cancelled ops from Saigon.

His CV is sticking around Wake hitting a couple more of my ships. That will be his doom. KB is en route.

An interesting turn around northern SRA. I sent Kongo and Haruna to pummel a TF I had spotted in Singapore. It turned out to be 2 AP's escorted by 2 DD's and the CL Mauritius. Mauritius faught well and even hit Haruna with a torp (minor damage though). In the end the escort all succumbed but the AP's got away!

Werner's subs have become active hitting 3 AP's this turn.

No sign of POW or Repulse

His carrier has moved from Wake to not sure where. Measures have been taken to ensure an intercept (hopefully).

Opinions guys -

At present I plan to follow the following strategy:

Annihilate The Phillipines with overwhelming force. At the same time NLF's will take most of the outlying islands. 56th Bde along with an NLF will take Mindanao. SNLF's will take Jolo and Amboina to stage G3M + Zero's to control sea lanes. Also NLF's will take Northern Brunei. In Malaya I plan to play a holding game mainly until The Phillipines have been subjugated. I plan on using 2 Divisons initially supported by 2 Bde's that will land this turn. Once Victoria Point is taken I will send the Imperial Guards division + tank Bde to support Malayan operations.

This marks the end of phase 1. Phase 2 will depend on how well phase 1 goes. If Malaya needs reinforcing a divison or 2 from the Phillipines will be sent. Otherwise I will take southern Brunei, Palembang with divisions from the Phillipines. Then from there onto Java.

I plan to largely leave alone the South Pacific until the SRA has been conquered. Once conquered I will push a little into Burma and see how far I get there and also into the South Pacific.

What do you all think of the plan?

You should have sufficient forces to attack in strength in the Phillipines and Malaya at the same time. No need for a holding action in Malaya, especially if you're not attacking Burma at the same time.

Do you think 3 divisions + 2 bde/rgt will be enough?

Well, it was enough historically...[8D] You won't be able to blitz the entire peninsula in a week, but the allied units in Malaya aren't very good. Just land in Kuantan and Johore Bahru, so you can cut off the main body of troops in Malaya and prevent them from retreating to Singapore. If they get there, it takes forever to dislodge them.

And you probably shouldn't march the Imperial Guards down the peninsula; takes waaaaay too long. Put them on ships, and land them at Johore.

At the moment the 55th(?) is struggling at Kuantan. I bombarded for the 1st 2 days whilst the rest of the division was unloading. I then did a deliberate attack which took the forts down to level 3 but took disruption up way high so I bombarded the next day. Disruption came down so just did a deliberate attack and no forts lost and I lost 4:1 in men.

I was going to land 2 mixed regiments at the next base south but i've decided to land them at Kuantan too and then from there march south.

Enterprise was pummeled and sunk but Kaga is not in great shape (51/25/12). Hiryu is at 38/20/8 and Shokaku at 28/0/8. Worse still I lost 50 odd planes to ops since they had nowhere to land. I class this is a minor defeat for me. I am moving my ships to safety however if Werner decides to move his carrier around Wake to the south he may well catch and sink my carriers. The northern wing is moving down as cover.

A bad day for me overall i'd say.

Other than that I hit a couple of his fleeing transports with subs. Most of northern Brunei was captured this turn along with Lingayen in the The Philipines. I already have 1 division and a brigade landed and another 3 divisions will land within a week to overwhelm the defenders.

This little carrier action off Wake was sort of like the Coral Sea. You didn't lose any of your fleet carriers, but too many aircraft and pilots. This could hamstring the Kido Butai for a bit...

Provided I can get all 3 back to safety I will be happyish. I have time to train a new cadre on Kaga. As I say my only fear is thta he sends his other carrier up near Wake after mine. If he does i'm toast. He has a window of 2 days to get me before my Northern wing reaches them and they reach safety of Nells at Kwajalein.

For ref the combat occured in the centre of the triangle formed by Wake, Kwajalein and Johnston Island.

I wouldn't worry about the plane losses too much. You have plenty of replacement planes/trained pilots in the daitai in Japan. Upgrade some of those A5M4s to A6M2s so they are ready to rebuild your daitai.

That carrier battle doesn't seem so bad for you. Just pray you keep all of yours afloat.

Isn't it rather painful to land at Johore? The torpedo bombers at Singapore will do a job on the transports, and with the new rule on cargo destruction, this could get messy. Still, there's no question that cutting off the troops in the north is crucial.

Ehm, I just looked at the map... I meant Mersing; It's way too dangerous to go around the tip of Malaya with an amphibious task force while Singapore is active. You can't bombard it either, because that plays straight into the defenders' hands.

I'm going to post an AAR for PBEM game with unseen by now opening in 2 weeks when my opponent come back from holidays- there will be all craziest things I can think [:D]

Enterprise was pummeled and sunk but Kaga is not in great shape (51/25/12). Hiryu is at 38/20/8 and Shokaku at 28/0/8. Worse still I lost 50 odd planes to ops since they had nowhere to land. I class this is a minor defeat for me. I am moving my ships to safety however if Werner decides to move his carrier around Wake to the south he may well catch and sink my carriers. The northern wing is moving down as cover.

I would actually classify it as a minor victory for you. Anytime you can sink an Allied CV and not lose any is a good thing.
As someone said, its analgous to the Coral Sea battle without the huge strategic overtones.

Obviously some of your carriers are going to spend time in port repairing and retraining aircrews. But, the Allies now have only 2 operational carriers available while you still have 3 fleet carriers and a Zero bonus. I doubt he will want to risk his carriers until Hornet and Yorktown come out. Most, if not all, of your carriers should be repaired by then. You have the advantage still and he has fewer options to counter it.
