Weeks, not months, but probably more than a few days. We hope to finish with the last changes we want to make in this round by the end of tomorrow. Assuming a few days more of testing and a few days to put the final patch files together, test them and post them, we're looking at sometime next week unless we run into problems on these last items. We're looking at a final count of about 30-40 items not counting the AI improvements, split fairly evenly between bug fixes and new features/rule changes/data changes. In addition there are many AI improvements.
TCP/IP work has started, but it won't become the main priority until this patch is out of the way. It will then become the highest priority for the next patch unless some major bugs come up in the meantime.

Here is an UNOFFICIAL list of fixes so far for the next patch:
1.017 - AI - Better Russian AI in reacting to attacks from Persia and in general should do a better job defending the Caucasus.

1.017 - AI - German AI U-boat strategy been improved.
1.018 - Rule - The evasion modifier for being previously fired upon during the current turn does not apply during Opportunity Fire.
1.018 - Rule - In the last part of section 8.5.7 in the section dealing with adjusting the net die roll modifier, the 2nd item dealing with units with a defense value of 12 only impacts the Attack Help Level modifier (caps it at + or - 1). It will not cap other modifiers.
1.018 - AI - The Combat Analyzer was improved greatly, echich should also help the AI make more intelligent decisions.
1.018 - AI - The AI will no longer attack empty areas with Air Units
1.018 - AI - The AI will no longer spend time thinking about what it should do if the country no units left.
1.020 - AI - The AI research was tweaked to proivide more common sense strategies
1.020 - Bug - Op-Fire shoots at supply as intended now.
1.020 - AI - The combat Analyzer now predicts Naval Battles and Air Battles more intelligently
1.020 - Bug - All Air units will now attack when assigned to a battle
1.020 - Bug - AI production bugs were fixed for Leningrad and Australia
1.020 - Bug - Fixed a bug that could allow you to move and undo a move indefinately, gaining 1 supply each time
1.020 - Misc - The game uses far less CPU when alt-tabbed away.
1.021 - Bug - Op-Fire on Units moving over Transports is now working correctly
1.021 - Bug - Fixed a bug where some Air Units would not attack.
1.021 - Rule - Rules clarification: A unit fired at by the same artillery unit at both range 2 and range 1 in the same battle (and no other unit prior to the range 1 combat), will not suffer an evasion reduction during the artillery attack at range 1 (i.e. a unit that fires more than once at an enemy unit in the same battle does not count its previous attack when determining if the target was previously fired upon this turn).
1.022 - Data - Allied Bomber evade is now 5 and durability is 3 in 1940 Scenario; all other scenarios adjusted accordingly.
1.022 - Data - Japanese Heavy Bomber Evade set to 5 in all scenarios.

NA - Rule - Rules Clarification: Rough increases the odds needed for the attacker to take an area to 3:1. This stacks with the Forticifaction odds, so a Rough Fortified area needs an Attacker : Defender ratio of 4:1 for the attack to force the defender to retreat.
1.025 - Rule - Added an optional rule to game option screen that charges ground units 1 extra supply when they move over a 2MP land border.
1.025 - UI - Added a way to spend max on the research screen pop-up (shift key when clicking on plus should spend max). Shift-click on minus button removes all research for this turn.
1.025 - UI - Added scrolling of map with 4 arrow keys.

1.025 - UI - Added a button in Production screen to build supply with remaining production points.
1.025 - UI - The "Are you sure you want to Exit the game" text is now red so that there are less mistakes being made when people think they are just advancing to the next phase.

1.025 - UI - Pop up over the isolated Resources on prod Summary added that shows what zones are isolated.

1.025 - Bug - Heavy Bombers will no longer attack ships with their land attack value.
1.025 - Bug - Damaged Factories can no longer be strategically moved.

Have the devs given any thought to Oleg's idea of raising the auto-victory level? I'm still not sure what I think about the issue myself, but Oleg sure seems to have an easy time getting to 70 in PBEMs. Heck, I almost did in my very first PBEM.

Not yet, although he's making a strong case for it. I think we need to see if some WA players can step up before we move the line. I was surprised to see how he could take out so many resources without attacking Russia.

Thank God! I haven't had to click so much since Diablo. I really am gald to see the UI getting some attention. 2by3games games are great but their UI are usually 20 years out of date.

How about consideration of not booting allied units when they liberate a territory. When, let's say Russia is conquered by Japan and Germany, the WA can't effectively liberate it. Germay and Japan can just fall back one region from the "border", the WA liberates the outer territory, has it's units automatically removed, then the followign turn Germany/Japan retakes it with a single unit. Repeat over and over. No realy way to liberate Russia with Germany and Japan "hiding" in the interior.

Working on liberation issue today. We hope to have something in this patch to deal with liberation. Getting it in this patch will depend on how easy it is to code our solution (we think we have a solution that will be easy, but won't be sure until Keith gets into it).

Nothing to discourage Japan from attacking Russia? Japan attacking Russia in every game gets boring...

Let's do this for Germany-Japan also. Sometimes Japan can make it to Africa to liberate German territory but can only liberate one before being pushed back.

" Nothing to discourage Japan from attacking Russia? Japan attacking Russia in every game gets boring..."
Well, it's not much but:
"Some Soviet units in Siberia were repositioned in the 1940 and 1941 scenarios"
I guess this could be to counter the paratroopers-taking-central-siberia thing.

I don't see anything in this list about the English Channel op-fire bug:
tm.asp?m=855954
Is a fix in the works?
