I see two types of shields: Plasma and Energy. Any functional difference?

Under the description for Humanity, they are touted as having access to both. What does this mean in game terms? Is one better vs Beams vs Missiles or somesuch? If so, is there anywhere that points to this?

For shields, the following list is:
Shield Type / Vs Lasers / Vs Particle Beams / Vs Disruptor Beams

Energy / +15% / +10% / None

Plasma / None / +5% / +15%
