I'm in the VERY preliminary stages of looking into maybe starting to design a small Operation Olympic scenario, and one of the things I got to thinking about were suicide boats.

I mean, I know they were ineffective at Okinawa, but consider how many the Japanese might amass to combat a landing in the Home Islands.

You can't effectively simulate them in the ship DB, but my idea was to put them in the LCU weapons DB, restrict them to CD units, and give them a really low accuracy rating (to simulate how most would be sunk before reaching their targets), but a high effect (to simulate the 2000-4000 pounds of explosive they'd carry).

Thoughts?

Seriously for a moment, are you telling me that the game doesn't allow for proper modelling of suicide weapons?

IMHO you can very abstractly represent this with maybe an extra mine or two on the shorline.These are after all very limited range "units",with a "chance" to hit,(same as mines).Sorry if it robs you of a nice icon.You could allow the defending player the option of maybe "purchasing" more of these in a given zone at a different price than just normal "mines"?..

Thier is little or No love for this conceptualy from the God's of WiTP, at least their was not in the past, if Frag's inqueary about a New Better Bigger more Intense game based on WiTP comes to fruation perhaps they will do somthing about modeling Japanese Midgets and Sucide Boats, and all the other thousnads of Ships/subs, ect missing from the game.

The idea of aloting the sucide boats to a Land unit, or creating one spicificaly for this was mentioned by me in the past, it is a reasionable way imo to model them or to do so in a way similar to that whith which we get PT's. At Okinawa they did make several sorties, I beleve they even did some damage(sucide Boats), and forcers were depolyed by the Allies to defend aganst them, but this was just a fraction of what awaited the Allies in the Home Islands.

Midget subs were deployed all over the Japanese area of influance from forward basses as well throught the war, but they again are not represented in the game. I could, as Halsey sugest's, go, on and On about this but I dont see it comming to any sort of Oficial conclushion, at least not one that would include them in an official update, though I could be wrong[:)]

Their were about 6,000 Sucide Boats built by wars end, and more on the way...

It would be nice to see the rest of the Japanese MTB's as well, other than the hand full we get at game start non of the rest show up in the standard vershion of WiTP afik:

Hey, I'm optimistic [:D] There should be a cliff somewhere close by for me to fall off...

You know, if Japanese PT-classed boats could somehow be made to regenerate like AGs it just might work. PTs can't be hit by anything but low-flying planes or FBs and they pop out of ports when their port is attacked.

Next it'll be those infernal fire bombs over Oregon...[:D]
