Newbie Download Questions

Hi, I just stumbled across a review of "Steel Panthers: World at War" and followed the trail here. Wow, a FREE download of a wargame!
Looking through the message threads of this forum has enticed my interest in the game even more!
I am humbly seeking the advice of veterans on downloading the game (I'll have to do it from another machine onto CD). I just recently got into PC's, and have little knowledge beyond buying a game at a retailer, plopping the CD into the drive and installing it. Looking over the files available and the versions, mega campaigns, etc. it is slightly confusing to my limited brain function at this time. So any downloading advice would be greatly appreciated!
I'm looking forward to joining this great community of wargamers! There is only so much you can do with "Panzer and Allied General" on the Playstation!

Barbarossa, Welcome to the best wargame and wargame site around. Lots of support and advice given here. For downloading the "FIRST" thing is to get a download manager such as GETRIGHT or GOZILLA. With these, you can resume a download in case you lose your connection or have to stop for some reason. Hope you have a fast internet connection <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> . Once you get it downloaded, come back and someone will guide you through an install.
Good luck,

Welcome Barbarossa. You have one hell of a user name. My Favorite. Trivia to Barbarossa and all, what does my user name stand for(parusski)?
Barbarossa, do you have a cable modem, DSL or ADSL? If you are using a dial up phone modem it can take anywhere from 20 to 70 hours to download. Many will burn a copy and send it to you for free. I would myself but for the fact that I am travelling and not at my Kick a** desktop with a really fast cd-rewriter. I will be back home next saturday and will be glad to help then. But, I know i will not have to; because plenty of other Matrix members will help you by then. Great to have u aboard.

"Trivia to Barbarossa and all, what does my user name stand for(parusski)?". OK, two guesses. (1)Your dad is Russian, or (2)You're originally from Pennsylvania, and of Russian descent. I'm probably not even close, but what the hell, I'll go for it. As for Barbarossa's choice of forum name, I would've gone one better and named myself Friedrich Barbarossa, but it's still pretty cool. Ok, here's another one: what does Barbarossa translate to in English? BTW, Barbarossa, drop in on our convention chat on Thursday at 8. You're not too far from Charleston WV, so you're more than welcome to come to our Matrix fan celebration next year. You'll be able to meet some of the Matrix game reps face to face. I don't mean to sound like a cheerleader, but this IS a great group of guys to be associated with.

To KG Erwin: Parusski is simply "russia" in russian. Just a little irony. Russian was my foreign language in college(wanted to be in the CIA)HA.

Barbarossa, if you still need a copy and do not have one or have one on the way, then email me this saturday at parusski@aol.com. I will take care of it then. Dosvadanya.
