How to kill Fuel Dumps, Oil Wagons, HQ's etc.?

Yesterday I playd the MegaCampaign again. Scenario 1b "Catch the Train".
I couldn't destroy the Fuel Dumps, the Oil Wagons of the Train and the HQ. (Some of them had intrinsic troops). I tried: 75mm, 37mm, 20mm, MG. No success. The gane only reported "..." hit. What did I wrong?

Keep shooting at them until they explode...takes some time, I think...

Try flamethrowers. I played an Eben Emael scenario the other day and blew up an ammo dump for the first time. Hmmm.. nice big explosion.

Flamethrowers and satchel charge are most effective. Usually only take one shot. Big guns also are good.

As christopher said keep shooting. Some took me longer than others but all were eventually destroyed. I concentrate my fire on one car at a time and then move on to the next.

I did a test once. An ammo dump can take about 30 damage points until they go up. Its well worth the wait, its quite a show.

To me, it seemed like bigger the gun, less hits you need to blow them to kingdom come.

Repeated hits from tank guns will take out ammo dumps but it takes a few turns. For a fast job use an air attack if they are availble.

Despite the impressive fireworks display when a dump goes up, there is not effect on units in adjectent units. In this regard, a single 150mm shell has a larger effect radius than thousands of pounds of ammo going up. I realize that its a programming issue and it would take too much effort to "correct" this. I am not complaining but just pointing this out.

The train cars seem to die most easily to 20mm fire, I've played that scenario about a dozen times now, testing beta software, and the tanks seem to cause the crew to abandon their cars, the infantry will get them easily via close assault, but suffer fire from enemy units higher up the screen. What worked best was moving the ac's to a 1 hex range, passing by the forward cars and locomotive, immediately starting on the oil cars.
If they still haven't blown by the time the PzIIc's get there, they add in. After I blow the oil cars I work my way forward blowing up each car, and the other cars are much easier. By the time the last car is gone, most of my troops have exited after taking out the British reaction force, I then exit the remaining vehicles, infantry and crews, ending the game about turn 8.
If you are careful how you approach the train, you suffer very minor casualties, and get a decisive.
thanks, John.

If scenario designers want to have a more predictable timing in how fast/slow these emplacements (HQs, Ammo Dumps...) blow up, then they can assign "pre-game" damage points to any of these unit classes with Freds WaW Editor.
For example giving Ammo Dumps a pre-game damage of about 70-75 points yields an easy blow up by almost the very first shot of small caliber (20 and up) ordnance.
(Usually needed damage points are closely related to the unit cost in the OOB)
