Spanish Fighter - Retreat bug?

I believe this is a bug. On turn 2 as Germany, I attack Spain with 5 tanks, 2 inf, and a heavy fleet bombardment. All done as a single attack. I win the battle and at the end of combat the surviving Spanish land units are surrounded and destroyed. But the Spanish Fighter retreats to the islands west of Spain (forgot the name - my geography is poor) and becomes a WA fighter. Shouldn't it be surrounded and die too? I have done this battle many times before the patch and that surving fighter never retreated before.

Not sure how to attach the save game right before this battle to this post. But I have it and would be happy to email it to someone at Matrix.

Seems logical, since they would have used that third dimension that you failed to deploy a combat unit in (air).

actually sounds like the unit is deploying to spanish morocco, which then subsequently switches to allies. Yes, sounds like the proper response...

You attach a save file by re-naming it to *.txt Of course you'll still have to e-mail it to the developers since they have problems loading stuff off the forums :P
Ugh! Another pesky Spanish unit to deal with! That light fleet was bad enough!

If memory serves me correctly, invisioning the WaW map, the fighters could redeploy to the Canaries(off the coast of Morroco), but the Azores are one sea zone west(w/doubleline) so they would be out of range.

yes that is correct, before this latest patch planes never "flew" to an area in range to retreat.

Hold on....

The plane is not retreating to Spanish Morocco it is retreating to the Canary Islands - another neutral country. And once it arrives there the plane and the Canary Islands become WA territory. First of all, wouldn't a retreat to those Islands be 2 movement points? (although maybe it doesn't cost aircraft an extra move to land on Island, can't remember). Second, why would the Canary Islands become WA territory? And last, if indeed as a neutral piece surviving the battle it is supposed to become a WA fighter, why wouldn't it go to Gibralter?

Again, I have a save of this game and can reproduce the result. Does anybody want it or is this really working as intended???

IMHO this is all OK (Canary Islands are Spanish) and distance is 1 (therefore no problem).

The first thing that happens is battle from which fighter retreats as Spanish aircraft and after this you get info that all other units are destroyd in Spain (because they can not retreat). This means that Spain is conquered. Since Spain was attacked by Axis it now joins the Allies and that Spanish fighter chnages to WA fighter.

Again, IMHO, this is all OK...

Apollo,

Hmmm...

Ok, I guess that is reasonable. In that case, it must have been broken before the patch, because I never saw that happen before.

According to "MButtazoni" this was not possible before v1.033 due to bug (and therefore we never saw this before)...
