Italian Navy whoas continue...

The Italian Navy just can't seem to get a break. In today's game w/ 1.033, a lone Brit light fleet sailed in against the entire Italian Navy. The Brit light fleet fired, a hit, v. a light fleet. The light fleet responds with a miss. The other Italian ships do nothing!

It seems crazy that the AI would make this attack, and even worse that it wasn't punished for doing so!

the italians are lovers, not fighters. :0

its the idea that the oceans are large and ships can slip by without being noticed. therefore the concept of not every ship getting involved in every battle.

this is why I like to lead with my heavies and then bring in the light fleets for a followup attack.

Oceans are large, and ships could miss each other, but thats why ships travel in groups called fleets. Also, we are talking about a period of 3 months. Easily enough time for the fleets to find each other and engage in combat MULTIPLE times.

actually each icon unit is a "fleet", not just one ship.

also if a light fleet engages its not going to enter combat thats 10 to 1 odds, its going to run away. theres a pretty good chance that it might escapr too, consider their wasn't a magic way to catch up to a fleeing ship. the only way to stop a fleeing ship is with air power and that is modeled also by op-fire with carrier fleets.

I understand the idea that the Med was still a pretty big place to hide back then. My complaint was that in several games, including the newest patch, a lone Brit or two (silly AI) would take on the entire Italian fleet, and not once has an Italian heavy fired it's guns. But a huge Allied fleet going after the Italians, and it's a big general engagement.

I don't expect the Italians to be able to defeat the Allies, but 10 to 1 odds ain't good enough for them!

think you're looking at a statistical anomaly. I've taken on the italian navy lots of times and have had the combats run both ways..
