The ratings locted in the upper right hand corner of the unit screen, Rally, Inf, Art, etc. Just exactly what are their effects on the unit??? Rally I understand is an indication of the rally capability, but what effect are the others?

From p27 of the Manual:

Leader Information Section
The leader’s name and rank is listed above his ability scores for: Rally, Infantry Command,
Artillery Command, Armor Command, and the leader’s score in kills. High numbers are best. Rally is how well leaders can rally units, Infantry and Armor ratings affect the leader’s chance to
help the unit be more accurate when directing the fire of Infantry and Armored units respectively.
Artillery is how accurate the leader is in targeting Indirect Fire.

So the answer is that the Arty rating effects the accuracy of indirect fire while the Inf/Arm values effect direct fire.

I have a related question: I am playing a campaign and as core force I purchased 2 sIG-33 and 2 Sdkfz 11 to carry them. Now I am in April 40, I have plenty of points and the sIG-33 auf PzI is available. So I convert my sIG-33 to tracked version, as well as the transport.
The problem is that my tractors have better values in Armor command (I guess it is the one that is used for sIG33 auf PzI) than the gun teams. Well, ok, I can live with that <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> Now I wonder whether the leaders of what used to be sIG33 will receive better artillery command rating (quite useless) or better armor command (they may reach the level of tractors, who knows...) when they gain experience?
It is something I am wondering about since a while. Or I could also purchase a sniper at the beginning and it would be a king tiger at the end of the campaign (I have read a post like that). Then would the crew gain armor command or inf command?

Thank you,

Thank you,

Units gain experience in the value for the type that they are presently, not what they once were. So if you have an infantry unit then convert it to an armor unit, its armor value will begin to increase as you gain experience.

If you want to you can send the unit to "school" and gain an immediate increase in the desired value by opening a saved game in the scenario then editing the unit's values. Of course if you are playing vs a human this would be cheating if you did it without your opponent's agreement. If you are playing yourself its your game.

Learned a long time ago, though I've never seen any mention in the manual, that higher arty ratings also speed up the delivery of a fire mission. I remember a scenario that had a couple FO's with 100+ arty values; any bombardment they phoned in arrived at the beginning of the next turn (0.1 or 0.2), regardless of the firing unit (even ships and planes). Now I always make sure there's an FO in my core force and protect it.

That .1 delay is a capability of US FO's. It attempts to simulate the way the US could apply arty anywhere anytime they wanted. Other nations FO's are faster than other units but not as fast as the US.
thanks, John.

Thanks Larry, I guess it's time for me to get a new copy of the manual. I could not find this in the V5.0 manual. Thanks again.
