Who do you think is the best ground combat unit in the game for

1. Japanese
2. USA
3. Brits
4. Chinese
5. India

and then of those 5, who would you want pound for pound, man for man in a combat fight?

You left out the ANZAC forces, which at least historically were some fo the best ground combat forces in the theater or any theater. My personal opinion is they were the best in the theater, especially in 1942-1943.

Iirc, the best IJA unit is the Imperial Guards unit. The unit had the largest TOE, as well as high experience and morale (90/90).

1. 33rd Div
2. 1st USMC Div or Raiders
3. Plymouth Argyll's (12th Indian Bde)
4. Not sure
5. In theatre 5th Indian from Eritrea to Malaya (out of theatre 4th Indian arguably acheived more Operation Compass et al)
6. ANZAC 9th Australian Div (Desert Rats in Tobruck via El Alamein to SWPAC)

If this is true in the game, its incorrect. Yamashita himself considered them his worst troops. They were a entitled, pompous, indicipline, arrogant bunch with an equally pompous arrogant commander who didnt feel he needed to follow orders. They had high morale but they were not particularly "expirenced" as they were actually the Tokyo imperial garrison and considered "soft" by regular army standards. As an aside this unit was responsible for most of the attrocities committed in the Malaya campaign. Yamashita was so fed up with there indicipline and disregard for orders he didnt allow them to particapate in the final assault of Singapore.

My personal favorites are the Philipine scouts even if they are somewhat underated in the game.

Historically but maybe not neccessarily in the game my picks would be

1. 18th or 48th Divisions
2. 1st Marine ( honorable mention Philipine Scouts )
3. 7 Amored Brigade
4. Y force
5. Gurka Regiments

Chindits, perhaps.

But unwisely used for the most part.

Wrong theatre but, USA 3rd Inf Div. would be my pick. Some bad mofos in that group.

Ah, so.

I pick British 7th Armoured Brigade. I love these guys when the going gets tough in Burma.

Best unit to serve in the Pacific wasn't there very long (Aluetians Campaign) before being sent to Europe. But you won't find a better candidate than the US-Canadian 1st Special Service Brigade. Remarkable record in every engagement and every task assigned.

The Desert Rats. In this game the Jungle Rats.[;)]

The Red Devils? Too much hype.[;)]
Good unit. They had a good record, and a lot of casualties.
