OK I want to try and relive my youth here and try out a Star Wars PC game. One that will take me back to when I was 7 after watching the first episode (or is that episode 3??) and ran around pretending to be Luke Skywalker.

I dont have time for the MMOG but I want something that has all the Star Wars magic.

Any ideas what to try.

It depends, you want a strategy type or you just want to be a jedi running around with a light saber slashing everyone to death?

If slash is what you need,

Jedi Knight - Jedi Outcast is the latest pc version. You can grab the Jedi Academy (predecessor) and there was one before it which I don't remember the name of. Basically they are Quake with a light saber and force powers. [:D]

If strat is what you need,

sit back and wait a while, sounds like the epic one is being written as we speak.

more variations of FPS shooters ... Commando is the latest in the bunch ... fairly nicely done with lots of boom but no light sabers ... the interface is qute smooth and controlling your team is done through a nifty point and click style.

You can see them all at http://www.lucasarts.com/products/

Although not built around the first Starwars Movie, I hear Knight of the Old Republic by Bioware is very good. I think it is more along the roleplaying line, but it has received great reviews.

If it is RTS you seek, Star Wars: Empire At War is looming and the screenies look pretty sweet.
I played the original KOTOR and it is great, but demanding and long.
I bought Lego Star Wars for my daughter and ended up playing through it as well. Don't let the name fool you. It is "cute" but pretty enjoyable and really simple. Just make sure you have a gamepad.

or "Republic Commando".

Worst piece of trash I have ever bought. Dont bother with it.

If you want FPS action try any of the jedi academy series, they are all good.

If you want more tactical approuch aka fallout try the Knights of the Old republic 1 and 2. They have pretty good plots, plenty of freedom (you have your own ship, you can travel around the galaxy) and guns. Dialogue is really good. Especially in KoToR 2 where its just beyond brilliant. The NPC:s feel almost like real persons.

The best one is and will allways be "Tie Fighter", followed by "X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter".

Nah "Tie Fighter" followed by "X-wing". The expansion packs are a must though :)

Loved Tie Fighter myself and X wing. Plenty of hours flying around space with the Star Wars theme banging in my ears! Never bought the third one where you could fly the falcon though.

Strategic Star Wars games

There was a conceptually great strategic one... Revolution? Rebellion? something like that. You could dispatch the individual characters to planets to recruit etc plus build ships and have massive battles in space. There were two major problems:

* The AI sucked... it just sat there and let you beat it up.
* The voice overs weren't the original characters.

It was called Rebellion. The AI did stink, but where doesn't it? Good game, though. The closest to a decent SW strategy game...

Galactic Battlegrounds was okay as well... I'm not sure if I want to get Empire at War. Too many BAAAAAAAD licenses out there; it's a once-bitten-twice-shy thing for me.

Sorry, just read the original question.......

Empire At War still looks sweet. [8D]

KOTOR I and/or II taint bad. Nor is Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

SW Rebellion it was.....and yes....sadly the storied franchise got the shaft on that one. Seems to me that both Star Wars and Star Trek have had their share of games and for the most part they have been sub par affairs.

Rebellion was a good concept....shoddy AI, became a micro managing nightmare and the space battle sequence was horrid. I just used to let the computer do the odds and not even watch it. I say MOOII both star wars and star trek !!

In the US it was called Rebellion, but in the UK it was called something else. It was the same game though. It was probably one of the best Star Wars games. Although, Tie Fighter will always hold a special place in my heart. Rebellion was a flawed victory. It had increadibly neat things like building capital ships. You could look at the detail of the ship, and it had tons of great info on that ship. It had information that was not even relative to the game. Then you would build an army birgade say Stormtroopers. You would get nothing almost no information. It had nice pics for all of the units. All of the characters were interresting. They had different qualities. They could command fleets or fighters or army or navy birgades. Another major let down was the Rebel Fighters. They did feature hyper drive capabilities, but you could not send them to another planet to do a hit and run raid. You had ferry them there on a carrier of some sort (i loved naming all of the ships in my fleet after real ones) just like the empire. Army or Navy invasions of planets were very vague. I think those ground assaults made as much sense as the naval combat does in Rome Total War.

In all, I still enjoyed it. You were sitting in the comcenter of the republic or empire. You had manage fleets, fighters, ground soldiers, production, factories, mines, political influence, commandos, Luke Skywalker (as he would leave for Degobah), capture Palpatine and Vadar, and your capital (when it was destroyed your comcenter did not go blank[&:] it should have just kicked you to the desktop as a feature of losing)

I've played some Star Wars games for PC, but they all lack that unified experience. I crave a game that allows me to run around a planet or on a starship and use a blaster and/or a lightsaber, use the force if appropriate, and then get in my X-wing and fight it out in a space battle too. This is the real Star Wars experience... any games out there that do both?
