Hey folks- i'd like to start a threat on Russian strategies in addition to the Newbie Primer that m39 white death started for the Germans. I'm playing for the first time as the Russians and wondering what you all think regarding:

1. optimum army configuration, how many Tank Div's , Rifle Divsions, armies per HQ etc? King Tiger had great suggestions for the Germans, how about the Russians?
2. How does the Russian player get the right tanks into the field efficiently and "use up" all the obsolete tanks on the front while stockpiling T-34's?
3. What planes do you make for your resurgent '42 air force?
4. What are the "must" things to do for the Russian on the first turn and throughout, etc?

Any other strategic wisdom and newbie help would be appreciated!!!

When playing as the Soviet against a computer German opponent, I found the following tips are worth trying:
- complete overhaul of the Russian leaders (adding ALL of the new fronts and picking up people like Eremenko, Zhukov, Konev, and a few others to command the front line
- replacing all the many T34's opposing the advancing Germans with T26's and the like, as most of the front units will be either encircled or destroyed, in this way a lot of precious T34's can be put away in pools for the Winter counter-offensive
- withdraw ALL aircraft and put them safe away enough from the German Luftwaffe bombing ranges and put them all to training
- choosing Yak's and T34 as priority factory committments whenever possible, always having in mind the winter counterstroke against the Germans
