Multiplayer "hangs"

Hi,
I have the RFTS 2000 release and it works really fine with the 1.41 patch except for multiplayer.
When playing multiplayer it works fine for a few turns and then it hangs with the "computer being orbited by ball cursor" just when it should show the Turn Summary.
This is reproducable every time I load the savegame from the previous turn.
The only way to cancel that, is to close the game via Task-Manager. When I then switch back to the game it displays the "do you want to exit the multiplayer game" dialog.
This even happens when playing a (lan) game against computer players without other players.
I have tried this on my PC: 800MHz Athlon 768 MB RAM Win 98SE
and on my NoteBook: Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ 512MB RAM WinXP Pro
both show the same behavior after about 15-30 turns and with
either TCP/IP or IPX games.
EDIT:
I can do this again anytime by just hosting a new game, activating the default research and build queues, and then hitting the turn button till it hangs
