Combat question and proposal

For my first post first of all I have to thanks the admin of this wonderful forum, that is really usefull for a newbie of the game as I am.

After some play I have a big question to ask : How is decide whom to hit in a combat ? I've experienced lots of useless hit (i.e. tank shooting to a militia already shooted instead of an infantry not yet hit...[:-]) that could change mainly the result of a combat
The proposal is: wouldn't be possible for human players to choose whom to hit ? This could be a great improve for the game IMO, giving much more control on the result of the battles.
Thank for your reply.

P.S. Sorry if I've made some english language mistakes, but as you can imagine, it's not my first language

that would really make the game too easy, because part of the reason to have militia is as cannon fodder. if bombers could come in the first turn and solely target AA guns, then next turn they could attack unopposed.
also if we could do this "selective targeting", then I'd attack the AA with tanks from the ground and then send the second attack wave in as air, since all the AA was eliminated.
basically surgical commando attacks.

Thank you Aletoledo for your answer, maybe you're talking about single player mode and I could possibly agree with your opinion, but I play only in multiplayer mode with no AI controlled part ( only humans ) So I don't really think these changes could make the game too easy ( as both part has the same possibilities ).
The way combat are actually made it's too random IMO .
It may could be implemented only for multiplayer (hotseat or TCP when it will be ) mode, for sure it cannot be made for PBEM games [:)].
The best thing anyway is to let the players choose the way they like to combat ( i.e. a flag with automatic combat: yes - no ) so anyone can decide in different plays different way...[:)]
What do you guys think about it ?
bye

I like random! The combat could even be more random for me

It could use a 2D6 system for hits, and another randomizer for damage too! Lol! As long as the averages stayed the same, game balance would be
mostly unaffected.
As for choosing targets,
nope! The idea in GGWaW is that units stacked together are all fighting together. In WW2 you were generally unable to "single out" units, with some exception for artillery (which was usually concentrated some place behind the lines).
Even the ability to snipe at artillery by bombers is a bit of a stretch, but needed for play balance.

Actually there is a preset order of what shoots what, what is random is the naval combats where not everything is included in the combat.

Except for the urge to attack arty first, air bombing and naval bombardment attacks are both random.

What do you mean with "preset order" ? If I've understood well we should know what shoots what ( and everytime should be the same ?) Where I can find it ?
Thank you in advance.

As for targeting, units will target like units if possible (infantry vs infantry, militia vs militia). However all defending units must be fired at before a defending unit is doubled up on. Other aiming is random, except for the exceptions around ships and air units targeting artillery first (including doubling up by air units against artillery even if other units haven't been shot at).

So maybe could be a bug... explaining: I found several times some units ( maybe militia ) that shot a militia already shooted ( so destroyed ) or tanks that shot to militia when on the opposite field are other tanks and infantry... as you can imagine this behaviour change completely the results of battles...
Nobody answer about the opportunity of let the player choose the way he may want to combat ( automatic combat : yes - no ) so everybody could choose the way to combat he like most [;)]
