Gibraltar Port

In my current game against Svend, he is docking U-Boats in Gibratlar who then are ravaging my Atlantic fleet. However, if I look at the map closley it looks to me like Gibraltars port is located firmly in the Med. I have a fighter in Western Morroco. Should the fighter not Op-Fire on the passing subs, or is Morroco not even considered a straight?

thats a wierd piece of land. you can bypass it by first going into the gibraltor port and then back out. thus the sequence of two sea zones has been broken. it almost seems pointless to occupy that land if the opponent has gibraltor. though basing there for plane strikes against the med is nice.

I wish the op-fire had been just two zones period, whether land or sea. this probably wouldn't have solved the gibraltor port bypass, but some other op-fires would be opened up.

The placement of the port icon is just cosmetics. The rule is the region has a port and it is accessible from all sea regions bordering on that region.

Does this apply to the spanish port, too? I have the feeling that the port of spain only accesses the med.....

That is the case only for Gibraltar, Cairo, Western Germany and Panama as far as I know (there may be a few others). As an example, the ports in Italy do not have access to all the sea zones surrounding the province. They both open up into the Adriatic only.

Gibraltar et al. are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Actually this is not true. Ports are not always accessible to all areas. We tried to get the port symbols to border on the areas where they have a connection. Looks like Gibraltar is misplaced as it should border both areas. The areadata.txt file lists each region that connects to each port.

What was the design reason for placing Taranto in Adriatic instead of Central Mediterranean? Was it to make Germans spend more supplies for each sortie?

Maybe it was placed that way so the Italian navy can still come out and bombard Yugo if the Allies occupied central med?

I feel that the German fleet should OP-Fire either going into or out of Gibraltar port. It doesn't make sense that they somehow skip around the OP-Fire.

They have the port of Trieste for that purpose.
